I have learned a lot from the information and advice here on the Ever so sleightly section when I was searching for my first set of cups and beyond.
Hope this will help someone who is getting into cups and balls and looking to buy their first set of cups, and beyond. You will probably find the same advice scattered around this section of the Cafe. TLDR, Most important factor to consider: 1. Venue 2. Budget Feel free to add on any advice or suggestions.

Solid advice all around. The only thing I would add to Venue is ambiance. If you're performing at a high class venue you may not want to perform with plastic cups.
That said, it all depends on the performer. Check this video https://rb.gy/8blltz out at 13:21 with the great Bill Malone. Much of his humor from this larger performance is considered inappropriate, but he owns the plastic cups and balls and could arguably perform it in any venue.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
