Owners or those familiar...
Are the fast, "violent," zombie-type movements - such as the ball strongly pushing away - possible with this prop? These moves are the ball pressing upwards against the cloth as well as forward against the cloth, away from you... "pulling" you, so to speak. Despite what I've been told, read and researched... I still feel unsure, like I don't have the specific answer and hoping some of you folks can help me out. Thanks in advance! |

Chris-
yes all those moves can be done. I'm a big fan of this method and you can actually see the instructional video that teaches the whole thing on YouTube! I made about 4 of these in the style of a Japanese lantern some years back and this video was helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRTY4jjtH1o

Jonathan! Thank you. Now, I am familiar with this video, so are you saying the Sphere is identical to Tommy’s initial solo release? Thank you so much!

I believe so... the back story is a bit murky. Losander would know the details.
in any case, the version on the video is the one I used and I've never found it limited in any way.

The Tommy Wonder Levitation System was slightly different than the version that was later marketed by Losander as the Animated Sphere. In principle they are almost the same and in effect will appear the same to an audience. The Wonder ball was a smooth surface ball and the Losander/Wonder Sphere had a textured fabric surface.
Both have their origins in modifications that Tommy Wonder made to the original Joe Karson floating ball. (See 'The Books of Wonder' and the DVD series 'Visions of Wonder' where Tommy discusses his modifications.) For comparison , here are three videos - Tommy Wonder's Levitation System demo https://youtu.be/T5YMPa_-jTs Losander's version (based on Wonder's) demo https://youtu.be/NQ2us_lF4xo Tommy Wonder's earlier improvements to Karson's classic version - https://youtu.be/wxU2JABaPQQ While I like Tommy Wonder's version with the larger ball ,I think both his and Losander's sphere are not as nicely proportioned as the smaller ball in the classic version. There's something slightly awkward looking about the larger ball. Of course, Wonder's ideas were later perfected in his floating birdcage. https://youtu.be/AgteMZ8qnog?t=61 https://i.imgur.com/cHzC6V8.jpg |
