Hello all. I was just interested in learning what breed of rabbits everyone likes to use

Netherland dwarf rabbit.

I have 3 I work with. A Netherlands dwarf, a Mini Lop, and a Lionhead. All 3 are females. I use to have another rabbit that passed away a couple of years ago. She was also a Mini Lop. The weird thing is when both my Netherlands, and my Lionhead came into season, they became biters. I got them spaded and after about 2 weeks they became friendly again.
Both of my Mini Lops always stayed friendly. I'm not sure if that is a trait they have, or what.
My main point is that if you have a female rabbit and her disposition changes, you might think about getting them spaded.

Rabbits are born in many varied varieties depending on the parents.

Netherland Dwarf rabbits can be white.

I suggest the 1st thing you do if you are considering a rabbit of any variety, is to educate yourself. There are books you can purchase, or even a ton of information on the Internet.

Rabbits are dangerous, they can bite and even eat new born babies fingers.

Like any pet, you have to train them and become familiar with each other. They do not take care of themselves.

It is a great responsibility and costly investment to take on any animal.

This is just a question I was interested in learning. I'm actually getting ready to start raising meat rabbits. So far I've read 3 books and am on my fourth. I've also did lots of research. I just wondered if magicians were using the fat white like you see in old pictures or if they used a more exotic pet breed. I'm going to raise New Zealand Whites for meat

Fortunately,,my wife breeds rabbits, so I get a bit of a selection. Netherlands are quite popular, largely due to their size. They can get grouchy, however (particularly the females), especially if not handled frequently. A "tame" bunny can get troublesome quickly if you fall off of tha handling wagon.

My preferences have been for the more docile Polish dwarf (handling rules still apply), and more recently, the somewhat larger Himalayan. Hemalsyans are thought to be the most docile of the domestic breeds and are less high maintenance. Pyewackett, my current rabbit assistant, is a Himalayan that has been tested and registered as a therapy animal through Pet Partners. However, the Himalayan is a bit larger than the Netherland, so your effects may have to be "customized" to fit.

What is their weight

The Himalayan can get up to around 4 1/2 pounds on the outside.

I've had had several bunny's thought the years.

They get to eat Alfalfa, Hay, Fruit and Rabbit Food.
Rabbit food is a Buffet as much as they want.

I had a Dutch Bunny and he could pick a card
but he got fat. He is the only rabbit I've had
that got fat.

Had a Himalayan and he was Great.

Now have a Holland Lop and he is Still Great.

Craigslist is a good source for finding and buying rabbits.
Or 4H Club.

All the boys have been named "Skippy"

I don't so much concentrate on the perfect breed. All breeds have some interesting traits. Have used every thing from a lion head to a belgin hare with great results. I interview each individual and find the best reactions.

Over the years I've used Netherland Dwarfs. The breeders are now unto the lionheads and in my area it was difficult to get the regular Netherland dwarf's.
For the last 15 years I've been using a breed called Hotot. They have a black ring around their eyes and they are the same size as the Netherland.
I find that the best bedding material is the treated shredded newsprint, I mix it with the Aspen material. I've read that pine bedding is not good for their lungs.

Over the years I've worked with many breeds.everything from duch, dbl mane lion head to belgin hare. I find attitude and personality more a determining factor than breed. Several were purchased from "food source" vendors. All I can say these were very motavited to perform.

I used Hottentot's. They worked great. They breed like rabbit's....

Currently my two bunnies are a chinchilla rabbit and a generic rabbit (but obviously one of the smaller breeds)
Both Rescues.....

I've used everything from a belgin hare to a double main lion head in the show. I look for whatever character traits I can mold. Some do card tricks, read minds and I had one that would steal your wallet.

My favorite?

Stuffed. With a spring inside. They look real with none of the problems!

My last rabbit was a Holland Lop. He had a great disposition, so he was good around kids. They get bigger than dwarf rabbits, but they're great for some box effects.
