How many clowns do we have here? I'm a member of COAI in good standing and have to wonder just how many joeys are in the magical side of the house.
:clown:

So I ask, "Who here wears the nose?"

Hey Rob

I'm a magical Clown from England. I'm a long term proud member of Clowns International.

I sometimes get the feeling that 'legit' magicians don't look too kindly at us lowly clowns but I've seen little evidence of that in this place.

The trouble with being a clown is that no one takes you seriously!!! Smile

Anyway, you're not on your own here and maybe we'll find out about a few more Joeys amongst us. Smile

The great part is, if you do happen to make a mistake. It's a lot easier to:

1. SMILE!
2. Make it a joke
3. Hide your face (behind make-up that is)
4. Blame the invisible guy and get away with it.

My magic may not always work right, but God willing, I'll always work my magic.

I am really glad to see other magic clowns here - I love working with children, and love the fact that the magic is not the be all and end all, just part of a larger relationship with the audience. It's also a lot more fun, although I do believe kids are the toughest audience, and quickest to let you know if they think you are not on the (or their) level.

Just joined, so popped in to add my name to the list.

Been away from the motley for a while as I became a serious actor (I know, I know...), but now back and loving it!

btw - anyone know of a few good UK places for clown supplies? I turn my back for a moment, and it's all changed!

Sorry I'm just a fool, no white face, but the idea is there. I was thinking of using a mask a la "Comeda del arte" style.

I am sometimes known as The Nearly Normal Clown.

I rarely wear make up even when hired out
as a Nearly Normal Mime.

Back in the early 80's (prior to the Blue Boys) I came up with "Green Face" for an annual Zuchinni Festival.

My warm up for school shows is very Clown like, I produce balloon clown lips, sunglasses, hat and cane,
and have a few minute struggle getting out of my regular shows into my oversized and very
colorful slippers.

I prefer them over clown shoes because kids
can relate to them, and IMHO just as funny.

I brought a fairly newbie magician to one of my Nearly Normal Library Programs.

After the program, he quipped, "so basically simply, you just act the fool."

I replied Yes but not simply!

Me too....... Dr. R. Rex at your service,
character clown magician and escape artist (the only one I know of at that!) Though the X-treem X-capologist, is my main performance gig. My parents have been clowns for quite some time, I was never really into clowning, until R. Rex came along, well, I found myself as we say, I don't use him much but he is around.

Care all,

X

I mainly work as a clown. Here in Taiwan, clowns are very well liked by most people. I've been into magic for about 4 years now. Some work is paid and some is on a volunteer basis.
As a family we do shows together as clowns and do family style comedy magic. I've got five kids. We also do balloon sculpting as well, which is very popular here.

I use the European Auguste (no basecoat) face. I've been considering a whiteface again but I'd have to change wardrobe as well.. Smile

Smile You can count me in! I hesitated to sign up with my clown name of Fumbles because I first thought this was for "real" magicians only....I prefer simple magic, balloons and puppets.

Hi Ho, ZOOM-Fumbles, is there such a thing as a "real" magician? No one has any "real" powers, if they do I want to bottle it and sell the stuff, I could make a killing, er, living on Ebay from it.

Welcome!!

There are so many Auguste here, are the white face a dying breed since they are considered the "straight man" in the clown world?

Take Care

IMHO the real magic is in connecting with your guest/audience.

My schtick is being known as a nearly normal
clown. I sometimes wear the nose, but rarely the makeup. I prefer wearing oversized slippers in wild colors, instead of the more
"traditional" clown shoes.

I use balloons for a hat and oversized
"clown lips."

Two of my comedy/entertainer heroes were/are
Red Skelton and of course Emmett Kelly.

Keep 'em smiling.

Anyone out there go for any other emotion than laughter and comedy?
