i know the source of starce which is a variant. that's quite good.

I think Gene Anderson marketed a trick called Squirkle or something like that. It sold from Magic Inc. many years ago.

I seem to remember that Dan Harlen came out with a napkin tear that included a star and a circle outline (in the napkin), perhaps he could give you some information. Maybe he referenced some previous works???

The Dan Harlan item was called Starcle and surprisingly its still available from him on his sitehttp://www.danharlanmagic.com/Starcle-Starcle.htm It appeared in his lecture notes from the mid 1980s called Secret, Strange and Snappy stuff. Which was a really good lecture. Although the lecture notes may be a bit hard to find almost 30 years later.

Background: I saw Gene Anderson perform/teach "Squircle" when I was 14. I wanted to be able to do the same kind of effect impromptu during my walk-around gigs, so I created "Starcle" based on an old paper-cutting stunt.

I am sure I bought "Squircle" from International Magic in London ... I bet they still stock it and presumably they know the inventor.

I used it in a school assembly.

I only know Squircle from Devin Knight. And Starcle from Dan Harlan.
