Hi!
I'd like to make some gaffs with elastic thread (not loops) and I was wondering if any of you already have done the research and know the name of the proper product?
I met a magician in a bar in London once and he showed me a trick with thin and nearly invisible thread sown in the card itself. It was a homemade gaff inspired by one of D&D effects. Cannot remember the name of the effect right now.

I'm going to the local knitting store and I'd love a product name:)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it's the elastic thread I have in mind, it took me a looooong time to find that. I believe I used it to construct a Henry Evans rising card effect.

Is that the same thread you were thinking about?

I got mine from normal knitting store... And I live in city of 50 000 people so I would assume that it is easy to find anywhere bigger city. Also I have few magicshop links that sell it on IE explorer favourites but sadly it crashes every time I try to open it Smile

So far I can only find the really stretchy kind in 0.03 inch (0.8mm) thickness. Ideally I would like a thinner variety.
If you're interested, the kind I buy is by "CraftMedley" and is called "Elastic Jewelry Cord" (also comes in black). It is the super-stretchy kind - can be stretched to 3 or 4 times it's length and then returns to normal. Can also be stripped to make invisible elastic thread. If you know of a thinner variety please PM me! (I've tried stripping it but the strands sort of go haywire)
Part of the problem is that there is another clear beading thread which is a monofilament (can't be stripped) and has some elasticity but not a lot. So trying to buy the right stuff online is very difficult without being able to handle it, since they both look almost identical in photos.

There are several brands of clear, stretchy thread. That is pretty strong and works well.

I'm trying to make a bicycle floating match trick.
The strings are SUPER thin, clear and stretchy.

Any idea what to use?

Any invisble elastic thread available at magic shops will work.

You can find PRYM 977770 on Amazon. It's pretty inexpensive. (I think it comes from China, though... so it takes a while to come.)

Also, FWIW, this is the thread that Shim Lim uses and recommends for his gaffs.
Tada!...

You can go to any craft store and ask for monofilament thread. They will have lots of versions.

Has anyone found a decent clear elastic thread to make card gimmicks? I was told to use Prym 970026 which is white. I went against my better judgement and bought it and it's too visible.
Also, it seems slightly thick.

Anyone have a recommendation from Amazon?

Thanks in advance

I use Madeira Elastic Thread. I don't see it on Amazon, but plenty of options when you Google it.

The Prym products are much too thick. Looks like fishing line.

Prym 977 770 is indeed the thread that gaff makers use to make flap-type cards. It may not be manufactured anymore as it seems to be in short supply. The link below does have it shown as in stock, but it will cost you $20 with shipping to get it. If you go in with a magic buddy, that is 100 meters for $10, which seems reasonable.
