Often when I use an amplifier, I get accused of using a tape to provide the voice of my vent puppet, even on nights when I feel my lip control has been below par.
I've been told that the linking rings are magnetic and never actually link together. I've also been told several times that all magic is just tricks, except for levitations which are the work of the devil

One time I did the superman coin bend and the person acutally beleived I could bend coins and was really strong.thats the way it should be.

That I had initialed a few other cards the exact same as the one the spectator had signed for my ACR. ( In full view mind you )
When I handed the deck for examination, they said it was ink that comes off after a while. Kind of sad.

I've been accused of hiding cards in my mouth even though I had been pattering the entire trick. This has happened on numerous occasions, so much so that I got nervous that my facial expressions were actually giving away the hidden mouth cards

Hey guys,.. I did a simple coin vanish and ( I have two fingers that are deforemed) the person insisted I was wearing fake fingers and that the coin was inside.. who would have known! a frenchdrop and a TT!:P
AND the funniest ive ever had! I did a stiff rope routine for a couple friends and I asked them to say the magic words.. and when nothing happend I said Viagara and it went stiff.. then I asked for the magic words again.. and I said paris hilton and it went limp.. now I did this 2 or 3 times for one of my friends trying to figure it out.. after the 2nd or 3rd time she said / " OH! I get it!! Its Voice Activated" and then she started yelling "Viagra" at the top of her voice.. it was hilarious!! |

LOL that is rather funny. The most odd comments I've had are (after Red Hot Momma) "those cards are heat-sensitive" - so I gave them away, and upon removing the Bicycle deck (still inside its box) from my pocket, and a spectator spotting the yellow 'Texas Holdem Rules inside' logo, "oh, those cards are so fake". (???) I let him shuffle/inspect once they were out of the box and before we moved on....

Once after doing the Broom Suspension, I was approached by a man who said he knew all the way thru how I did it, but only wanted to know "did you use plastic, or glass?" Another time, at a private party for some very rich folks, I had produced a rabbit and the kids all were petting it, etc. One boy held back, arms crossed, looking over my case. When I asked him what's up, he pointed at the rabbit and said "CGI".
"Huh?" I said, and he revealed that the rabbit must be Computer Generated Imagery, a hologram type projection. I was flattered that he thought my parlour show for kids was such high tech. I tried to prove it was real by gently taking his hand and trying to get him to touch the rabbit, and he absolutely freaked out! Sometimes it's best to let them believe what they want, of course.

I have to tell ya...the most outrageous explanation for an effect I've done...I made a silk vanish using a TT...one lady said, "He's got POCKETS surgically installed in the palms of his hands"! Yep...uh-huh...sure...just-a flappin' in the breeze...ROFLMAO...she was serious though... :) Doug |

I had one person tell me that David Copperfield was able to do what he does because he's a member of the Rosacrusion (sp?) order and knew all their mystical secrets.
Of course, I was amused by the David Blaine special where he went to Haiti (I think) and the natives there thought he was a real magician using black magic.

When I said "amused", I meant it in the same way you did, Marvello. I thought the video said this was being done in Haiti with an isolated tribe. Will have to look at it again.
At any rate, I doubt that the tribe has no concept of magic, just not magic as someone like Blaine would present it. What he did, under the right circumstances, could have gotten him killed. They may have seen him as an evil being. Blaine really should have known better, especially when one considers magic's roots and roles in history.

Yes, I remember him doing some mentalism tricks and having one person ask, with absolute sincerity if Blaine could read his mind. Blaine also went after one man, trying to convince him that what he did was not real magic and was done for entertainment in the U.S. The man's response was that what Blaine did was black magic. There was one magician (can't remember who it was), in one of his books, that said he performed some magic tricks for a tribal group while waiting for his ship to sail. Afterwards, one of the group members confided in him that they weren't sure if they should kill him or make him the shaman (or its equivalent). Definately a lesson learned that day!

I sign photos for people after the show... a group of women approached and asked loudly in front of the line of people, "What is sex like with a magician?" Embarrassed, I answered "Its best when you use mirrors!"

I performed Oil & Water for someone, his explanation was that my cards were "the ones that change color." Now if I could just pick those up, I could work out that pesky 3rd phase...

Yea, I, too, am looking for a deck that changes color with body heat. Another name for them might be mood cards!

After posting a new topic in this thread (http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=209185&forum=66&0) I read this one and HAD to post a reply. After biting a quarter, a spectator said in all seriousness that I had obviously spent many hours in a dentist's chair getting custom teeth that allowed me to bite through solid metals. She was a bit drunk, but you have to admire such imagination. That reminds me, I need to make an appointment with my dentist... |
