Can anyone surgest a quality stage rope routine? Comedy would be ideal. I am practicing with Jeff McBride's at the moment.

rather than a routine with comedy lines, I would suggest..
Mac Kings "other rope routine"
Shigeo Takagi 'do as I do"
Steve Bedwells "In over your head"
or if I may humbly include my own "Hunter Knot revisited"

For comedy without direct spectator involvement
you can't go past Whit Haydens Mongolian Pop Knot.

Just popping in on this discussion. Recently I purchased the Rope DVD from the World's Greatest Magicians series by L & L Publishing. I really enjoyed it and as a lover of rope magic I was impressed and learned some new stuff! It is worth it to have on your shelf! $19.95 from L & L!!

I don't do this effect ... although perhaps I should make it up. I hadn't thought about the possibilities of using it for restaurant work. I did get a great tip from Pat's Rope Magic video that I thought was very practical for doing cut and restored rope in a restaurant setting and ending clean.

Actually, you could make it up yourself, but the price this dealer is selling it for already prepared seems very fair. Incidentally, I've had good experience with this dealer in the past. I may just buy it from them, since I have NO facility for arts and crafts! I've seen Patrick perform this on video, and it does look very visual and surprising.

It's true that Patrick Page's Rope Magic & Magic With Paper DVD contians only a performance of this effect, as well as several other effects whose methods are considered so obvious that no explanation is required. Take a look at the Tabary videos for an everalsting cut-n-restored rope without the gimmicks.

There are literally dozens of sources for an “everlasting” cut and restored rope routine. They all date back to, and are largely based on George Sands original handling found in his little booklet “Sandsational”. Variations can be found in Salvano’ work (Greater Magic Video Library volume 9), the already mentioned work of Tabary, in Flip’s work, and even on the encyclopedic DVD set on rope magic by Daryl. The principle is very old and is very easy to perform.

The downside (if there is one) is that in all of the routines there is an extra “something” to get rid of. That is an extra move to think about.

What Pat Page does with his version of the “Everlasting Rope” it make it so that the handling is totally open and there is no ditching the extra bit. The downside with his version is that you cannot toss the rope to the audience at the end.

I use Page’s version on the street where I might repeat the cut and restoration of the rope several times in a row to build a crowd. Once the crowd is built the prop is tossed casually in the bag and off I go to the next routine. My hands never get near a pouch or pocket since there is nothing extra to get rid of.

I can (and do in different venues) perform several different versions, I use Pat Page’s the most often.

No one seems to make The Everlasting Rope these days. Fun Inc./Royal Magic used to make it , but they no longer make it.

This trick - the Two To One Rope Trick - by FunTime Magic seems very similar. Is anyone familiar with this ? Is it the same method as Pat Page's Everlasting Rope ?

That looks remarkably like the presentation used by Fun Inc./royal Magic, a decade ago, to sell Patrick Page's Everlasting Rope.

By the way Pat's handling was slightly different than the handling seen in either of these clips.
Pat explains the prop/routine on page 200 of "Magic: Page by Page", by Patrick Page and edited by Matthew Field.

The prop rope(s) are not that difficult to make as a DYI project.

Yes. (I have the Patrick Page book -- great book!) The truth is, I'm just lazy! If I can buy it pre-made at a reasonable price I'd prefer to skip the crafting work. I like the thicker rope that seems to be used in the Funtime Magic version. Whether it's exactly the same method as Patrick Page's (I suspect it is) it is pretty much the same effect. In his book , Page gives credit to E.J. Moore and Peter Warlock. He writes:

"Back in the 1950's ,I bought an effect from London magic dealer Harry Stanley, who owned the Unique Magic Studio. The effect was called Red and White Ropes and was a simplified version, by Peter Warlock, of a Linking Ropes effect by E.J. Moore. Basically, two pieces of rope, one red and one white, were tied into two linked circles and became unlinked magically. I added [an extra something] to the effect so I could perform a cut and restored effect with one of the circles of rope, using a more or less standard handling. Many years later I devised a different handling for the cut and restored part, and sold it at lectures here, there, and everywhere. I called it 'The Everlasting Cut and Restored Rope'."

For anyone interested , I checked with Funtime Magic and their 'Two-to-One Rope' effect (this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDP2h2jct5I) is NOT the same method as Pat Page's 'Everlasting Rope', although the effect is similar.
