I am very new to magic, but what I (as a beginner) bring is:

- Cigarrets (for simple vanishing and production)
- Coins (for simple vanishing and production)
- Two joker-cards (black and red) for a switch. When I catch a glance from a table, I do the switch. It´s a great opener. People get curious and will ask for more: "Come! Join our table!"
- Mental Photography Card-Deck
- Regular card deck
- A regular ring
- Loops

This is all very easy to carry around in your pockets and even if you are an amateur like me (am I already?) it´s enough to entertain a while.

I carry a pack of cards in my back pocket,
A PK ring around my finger,
2 euro coin in my pocket,
and a 5 euro cent in my pocket (which is magnetic)
some very very thin thread on a card.

By the way, I am from the Netherlands, could you tell me what a TT is ?

I'm always carrying a TT loaded with a twenty for doing a bill switch, and a deck of cards. That's more than enough. Smile

I assume you do lots of sleight of hand? What do you think about Identity?

My usual carry is
Two sets of D'lites, one red one white
One Loop
One TT
Three Sponge Balls
One deck of Red Bikes
Occasionally I'll carry Ultra Gum

The sponge balls,TT and cards by themselves give me a lot of options for close up work, the rest is basicly stuff that amuses me.

Metal Folding Table, very easy to carry around:

plus a Close up pad.
And, I have more "great" effects that I add time from time...

I must admit that I don't BRING any TRICKS with me! I usually have a TT in my pocket, but a TT is NOT a TRICK. A TT is a gimmick, (i.e.: a PROP that is unknown to the spectator).

A PROP is (usually) used in PERFORMING a TRICK. You cannot CARRY, BUY, or OWN a TRICK. (or "MAGIC" either) You CAN BUY (and OWN) a PROP or a SECRET (in a BOOK, or DVD).

A TRICK (like music) ONLY EXISTS WHILE IT IS BEING PERFORMED). (When you stop dragging the rosined horsehair over the catgut, the music stops, too.)

If the performer (magician) PERFORMS the trick well, MAGIC MAY HAPPEN--IN ONE PLACE, and usually only for a moment): THE MIND(S) OF THE SPECTATOR(S).

When you can understand these concepts, and put them into practice, you may consider yourself a magician. Otherwise you are just a guy/gal who "knows some tricks".

I'm not embarrassed to say that describes me quite well. And, it's enough to make me a happy lad.

I sometimes wonder how many of us there are in the mix - folks who aren't out to make a living as entertainers, or dedicate their lives to magic, but who simply enjoy the pleasant diversion and the fun.
