Can you please tell me what are some of the "great" paddle effects out there?
Thanks |

I believe this has already been covered. Maybe a search would help you. Check out Jumping Gems, I'll Start Again!, and Ju Ju Stick.

One thing that many people on the forum do not know is that I collect paddles.
The Porper paddles, especially the jumping peg, are really classic. Does anyone have any idea what the first trick with a paddle shaped object was? I'll make a post in the historical section about it. I have to agree that "I'll Start Again" is a classic. So is the "Traffic Lite" effect that Ian Adair basically invented and Marcello Contento rendered into plastic. Eddy Taytelbaum's double jumping peg is excellent. John Kennedy's Dream Paddle is good. And the Mark Teufel paddles are simply devilish.

Wolf Magic's Shattered is a great paddle effect using a small mirror!

Any plans to make a paddle museum? I love paddle effects. For the record, my favourite is John Bannon's Photo Logic from Impossibilia. |

The Edward Victor Bat trick is a killer. Ken Brooke marketed on called "Laying the Foundations stone" using small trowels and bird droppings.
Perhaps it all started with the paper bits on a dinner knife?

My late friend, Jack Miller, manufactured and marketed Hot Rods for many years. He had a basement workshop where he turned them out by the skillions. I have visited with him while he packaged them and can recall him joking that, by his reckoning, he had made enogh rods for every magician in the world to have a dozen of them. That may have been a bit of an exaggeration, but it can't be argued that paddle tricks are among the most widespread of all magic effects.

Personally, I think the old jumping peg paddle is still the best. The versions with the mirrors are pretty cool routines too. Michael Baker recently sent me a nice zebra wood money paddle that he makes - very nice.
Edwin Victor's Bat is great. Pete Biro is a paddle master with The Bat. Bill Palmer put out a little yellow booklet about the paddle trick some years ago which is excellent reading and I made up a bunch of jumping peg paddles for him to his specs. I still have a few of them laying around. Bill's paddle is one of the nicer jumping peg designs IMO. But a home made jumping peg paddle in my collection is really my favorite. My uncle made it when he was a teenager. It's crude and made of some scrap mahogany. I will dig it out and post a pic. It really works well. I think it might be the combo of the rough wood and the square shaped handle. It just doesn't look like a prop which I really like. -=tabman

The Hot Rod is a great paddle trick. I love it! I actually avoided it for some time, thinking it would be too easy to figure out. I could not have been more incorrect. Not once, in all the times I've done it, has anyone even come close to guessing how it's done. So, needless to say, I've far more than compensated for my lost time with paddle tricks!

I like the magical hotrod myself. It is a 3-part paddle effect. You show the different colors, then you show the colors to be all the same (let's say blue), then you show the colors to be all the same again, but this time their red. You can hand the hotrod out for examination and both sides are all red.

The OLD paddle effect using a table knife and some pieces of paper is the strongest in my opinion. Plus it's a perfect, impromptu dinner effect.

I recently pick up a Precision Magic Hot Rod. I love this trick, and apparently so do laymen. Seems I finally discovered a plausible presentation. Guess revisiting something once in a while can yield surprising results. Who knew?
I also love Wacky Wolf's "Shattered" which come with a totally great and sensible presentation which propels it beyond a magic prop.

The Baffle Bat by Terry LaGerould has no rival. This is the ultimate paddle effect! Magnetic spots which are placed upon the metal Baffle Bat, they appear, disappear, multiply and visibly jump from one end of the bat to the other! This paddle trick will fool your magician friends as well as the laymen. The creative possibilities with the Baffle Bat are endless! This is truly a wonderful mystery to see, you'll love it! The Baffle Bat is metal and black in color. The magnetic spots are shiny little mirror spots (six spots come in the package).

I really like the Shattered trick by Wolf's Magic. It's a paddle trick, but not a paddle trick. It's cool.

I also love the Hot Rod. I used to uise it to open a walk around set. With regard to a routine then it's hard to beat the color changing knives. For a great set of knives, check out the Joe Morger Knives. I have a few sets of defferent knives and I love the morger set. I have the bone set with the jigging so they can be ID'ed in my pocket ala Whit Haydin.
