My new favorite rubber band trick is Boomerang rubber band. I tried the method used by Dan Harlan, and Rob Abram, and I was unable to lock my pinky finger in the right position, but when I tried Don Cox's handling of it I had instant success. The fun of shooting a rubber band on the floor and have it roll all the way back absolutely thrilled the little boy in me.
Thank you Don Cox Al Angello

My favourite band effects form part of my standard routine:
Half Crazy (CMH where the band goes half way through - my own method) and then passes completely through (the latter part as described on one of Dan Harlan's elastic band video) A spoof CMH, where one of the bands disappears (not sure who's it is) My variation of the thumb penetration, where the band jumps off the thumb Jon Allen's "Star" (A nice flourish) A Cat's Cradle penetration where it passes through the spectator's finger The Buxton Snap (one of my own broken and restored band effects) I also enjoy doing the ladder effect with paper money, a variation of the ring rising (where the spectator holds one end) and Lennart Green's PENetration

Welcome to the magic Café. What is the "cats cradle penetration"? That's one I've never heard of. Al

I was doing close up magic at a furniture showroom, and a kid said she would show me a magic trick with a band. I was expecting to see the jumping rubber band, but she did the set up to a cats cradle, got me to stick my finger in the middle loop, and when she released, it passed straight through! I have never seen it written up anywhere. I understand that it is a standard trick with Cat's Cradle, but I have yet to see it in print (although an early draft of my lecture notes "Tricks that should be band" did include it)

Just how much do you charge for these lecture notes. Often times women tell me when I start "star gazer" they think it is cat's cradle, but I never saw cat's cradle. Al

Before I give you a price - please be aware that there are no illustrations in the notes. Would you still be interested?
We can discuss it further in PM, if you like, to save clogging up the board

Can't think of the source, but I have been doing "the color changing rubberbands" for as long as I have been doing magic. The one where you place red rubberband on your index, and middle fingers. You can now make it jump to your ring, and pinky fingers. Or you can place a blue rubber band on your ring and pinky fingers, and they switch places simply by opening your hand. Very visual, and a simple trick that has been hard hitting for almost 30 years.
I still remember watching myself doing it over and over again in the mirror, in awe myself. I would do they same thing later on down the road with misled, and many many many more to come.
The great trouble with magicians is the fact that they believe when they have bought a certain trick or piece of apparatus, and know the method or procedure, that they are full-fledged mystifiers. -- Harry Houdini
