I bought a video by Bob Sheets that offers
a terrific adaptation and expansion of the
Sach's Dice Routine. Sheets uses large dice.
Any of you who are using his ideas, what size
dice are being used? Where would you get them?

Great version. I use 1.5 inch dice. You can occasionally find them at hobby and game stores. Make sure they match in size - they tend to vary a little more than small dice.

I started to learn the routine with smaller boad game sized dice and then progressed to casino sized dice. As I do the routine for small audiences, I haven't tried to use larger dice. There is a good selection of dice @

Bob is a fantastic magician and a venerable person. I was not surprised when I heard Michael Close in one of his videos comparing Bob to Tamariz: to be a great magician, you have to be a gentle and likable person in your life, not only on stage. Re: his dice routine, I saw him do it dozens of times at Magicopolis, in Santa Monica, when he was the house magician. Later, when I learned Dr. Sacks, I realized how polished and improved Bob's routine was. Meeting him was a remarkable experience.

Question.

I have the original Sach's routine. I have Steve Draun's version of Sach's routine (which isn't much different). I have Steve Dobsen's routine, and I have Reed and Steve's routine.

With all these routines, do you still recommend that I get Bob's? If so, could someone let me know the thinking of why?

Are you satisfied with the routine you are now doing?

My approach has always been to find out as much information about what is available about a topic. Then I can pick and choose what I want to include in the routine that will eventually become mine.

I have all the resources you mentioned above, and the Sheets routine. To be honest, I use little bits from all of them. Thanks to Skinner, Lewis, Elliot, et al...

For me it was two lines of Bob's, which are on the DVD, and his 1-6 ending, that made the purchase worthwhile.

I like the fact that Sheet's routine moves the dice in a more relaxed and naturaly manner in my opinion. If you are ever in Las Vegas, there is a gambler's warehouse with every size of dice you can imagine.

I would advice you to get the Sheet's routine: it the best "twist" on the original routine. I also have the McClintock, Draune, Daryl and other versions, but I think Sheet made something very nice with it.
BUT, I only perform the original (as taught in Phoenix and on video by James Lewis) since I think it remains the best one.
