The Magician in presenting an illusion can tell some cherry-picked truth but can not tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth as that would spoil the illusion. As it is with the Magician, so it is with the Medea: famous sorceress, daughter of the king of Colchis, from Latin Medea, from Greek Medeia, literally "cunning," related to medomai "to deliberate, estimate, contrive, decide," medein "to protect, rule over," from PIE root *med- "take appropriate measures." This cherry-picking of truth, this way of leaving out an important fact to foster a misconception, is commonplace, in secretive societies like ours. The Grand Illusion is, we are the good guys. And that Ladies and Gentlemen is the News.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
