Years and years ago, when Siegfried and Roy had a television special, there was a little filler bit before the "big finish" where they vanished an elephant. Siegfried was sitting at a table, and he took a little elephant carving and put in on the table in front of him, then he took two playing cards and he put one card behind the elephant, then put the other in front of the elephant. Then he slowly squeezed both cards together until they were flat against each other, then let the cards fall flat on the table.
Does anyone even remember this trick and was it ever published anywhere? |

Sounds like it might have been done like Tenyo's Squeeze Play.

I do remember that!! What a great little effect.
However, I don't recall if I ever saw anything published about it. Looks like its's research time!

BLESS YOUR SOUL! I had almost started to think I imagined the whole thing.

Okay, seeing the video it obviously does not use the Squeeze Play methodology. However, you can probably figure it out from the clip. I don't recall ever seeing anything like it in a book. I would say the closest thing would probably be Matrix.

Milt Kort published a vanish of a small elephant toy called "Umgowa!" similar to this S & R version in his book The Magic of Milt Kort. A practical real world version and not strictly for television. Kort was a brilliant man! This book is filled with great magic!

That's the one. Kort also published it in one of Sam Dalal 's magazines, either Swami or Mantra.

In seeing it again, I can see the laping. But it didn't help that my memory of an event at least 35 years ago was not the same as what happened. In my memory, it truely was the cards came together and then were dropped on the table. Cest la vive. Still a nice trick.

Syd Bergson also had a small vanishing elephant on the market in the 70's
the elephant had a small bit of line attached to its foot, and was pulled back and off the table by a reel. That one pops up from time to time on the used magic lists because it has to be done with spectator to the front, the angles are not good on the sides. All the best Marty |
