I have an old Axtell Remote Controlled Drawing Board which operated on 4 size C alkaline batteries. I want to convert it to a rechargeable version where I want to use Lithium Ion batteries. Problem is these batteries are at 3.7V each and I need only 6V power. If I use 2, that would amount to 7.2V and might burn the unit. Not sure.
What can I do?

Add a couple of diodes in series - the forward voltage loses approx 0.5 v for each diode.

Nick is right, and be sure to test as some diodes drop as much as 1vdc. You can also find 6vdc solutions that are rechargeable, depending on your requirements of size, weight, power (draw), etc. that are ready to go. You could also use a small buck/boost converter and just set the output to whatever it is supposed to be then use whatever pack you want.
