This has been posted in "Magical Equations", but it seems more appropriate here for this group. Sadly, the great Raymond Smullyan -- puzzle-maker, author, mathematician, magician, classical musician -- has passed away. He was 97.
When I was a HS math teacher, I invited Raymond to speak with my students. He graciously obliged; my students were amazed as he ran the full gamut of his many personalities: math, magic, puzzles, jokes; he even performed on the piano in the school auditorium. We kept in touch for several years before he died. I will miss this man sorely and feel blessed that my life overlapped his, even if just for a little bit. As a fun tribute to Raymond, I suggest solving this puzzle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C83ozUgRbBA If you found this one enjoyable, I recommend checking out his books. Just about all are tougher than this one! |
