Rupert Howard... Who was this guy? I'd really like to know more about him, but I can't seem to find any info other than a few lines on Lybrary. Does anyone know of any references or leads on this magician?

Do you have a subscription to Genii? You get free access to the whole searchable archive of Genii via AskAlexander.org . It's a staggering resource.

Genii, vol 3 p 93:

RUPERT HOWARD (known to all
magi as the principal of the Rupert
Howard Magic Course) is now touring
with a full company under the
name of MERLIN. I haven't caught
his act yet but have heard good reports
. . .

Genii, vol 3 p 124

RUPERT HOWARD
of that very school of magic
is now taking a road show about
under the name of MERLIN and is
getting away with it well. LEVANTE
took Rupert Howard
around with his own show so that
Howard could learn all the bits of
business attached to taking a road
show about. Levante will help all
. . . and always has a grand welcome
for all that call back-stage.

Genii, vol 4 p 48:

The summer always brings us a
number of visitors from Foreign
shores, particularly Latin and South
American countries—several here last
month and recently PESQUERA from
Puerto Rico looking for new effects.
The rumored performance of DANTE
is now a fact. His big magic show,
"Sim Sala Bim," long popular in
Europe, will open at the Morosco
Theatre in New York City, under the
Shuberts, on Sept. 9th for a minimum
run of at least three weeks. DANTE
was the Harry Jansen of the old Halton
& Jansen magic shop in Chicago
years ago after which he worked under
the Thurston banner, then went
abroad. It is said that Rupert Howard
of England is with the show which
will have 30 people and we look forward
to seeing an evening of colorful
and snappy mystery. Here's hoping
this show will play across the
country, at least the larger cities.
