In all my years of doing magic, I have never used dice in any of my routines so I come here with a question.

I'm looking for a die that will NOT roll a particular number (doesn't matter which number) but will roll all other 5 numbers. Is there a name for a dice that can achieve something like this and perhaps where I can obtain one?

The only thing I can think of is trying to make one myself- perhaps by turning the 4 into a 5 or something along those lines- that way no matter what you roll, a 4 will never come up (and a 5 will come up more often.)

Any links to a product would be greatly appreciated!

If you make one, turn the "two" into a "five", otherwise your spectators might see two numbers the same. If you do not have the necessary equipment, James Riser can make one for you.

Your best bet is to work with a mis-spotted die as Colonel Clark suggests. Loaded dice are hard to make or find.

Jim Riser is a GREAT craftsman and certainly could produce some special dice for you if/when he has the time. You'll find him a http://www.jamesriser.com

Thank you very much for your quick responses.

I'll perhaps just try to make myself a quick and dirty mis-spotted die and test it out.
Any tips for doing this? Currently I'm just thinking of using a sharpie and adding some dots to it.

If you have a drill press available to you, I would make small concave spots on the die first...otherwise, the drawn-on dots will stick out like a sore thumb. You want to match these up as exactly as possible. It will be virtually invisible that way.

thanks, I tried doing it with just a regular cordless drill but it wasn't working, a drill press will probably work- now just need to get access to one! thanks again!

Also: Make note as to whether the black spots are glossy or matte finish (most are glossy). Make sure you buy matching paint!
