Vinny,
Thanks for reminding me of a rather impressive but not often seen rubber band effect!

Pete,
The Magic Digest by George Anderson is a fun read with plenty of useful material. You'll find the The Indestructible Rubber Band on page 101. I got my copy on Ebay but you probably can find one on the usual online book sources such as Amazon.com or Half.com.

Paul and Vinny thanks! Gotta love the library! I found a copy that is being sent to my local branch until I track one down for my own purchase!

Thanks Vinny, I found a copy of Magic Digest for $2 (plus shipping), cooool.

I think I first saw/read this done with a piece of string. Which made me think that you could let the spectator hold the ends of the string, fold paper around the string (so it doesn't appear that the string slips out), then do the cut, and restore as the spectator is up close and holding everything.

I just picked up an "excellent condition" copy of Magic Digest off the big auction site for $13 (2 copies left). They have a slightly more used copy for $10, and an even more used copy for $5, as well.

There is a latex-free Rubber Band (I believe by Alliance) that seems to be pretty darn tough. I have the #16 and they are blue.
