Hey all,
Is anyone familiar with the Nelson Phantom Ghost Projector as described in SEANCE magazine? If so, do you if this: http://www.toytent.com/RayGuns/2305.html was the basis of it, or something else? Thanks Courtney

Courtney, Kinda of it was based on an earlier device that wa popular during the era before motion pictures. That's if were talking about the one sold by R A Nelson in the 1930's and 40's. If your looking to build one from that style of toy do not the toy is quite pricey.

Thanks,
Do you have any suggestions? Or do you know if anyone sells anything like this?

Courtney,
I'm not familiar with the Nelson Ghost projector, but if you go to http://www.instructables.com and http://www.makezine.com and do a search on "projector" you'll get pages and pages of DIY ideas and instructions on how to build your own. The simplest projector I've seen was made of a cardboard tube, a battery/resistor/led unit, and a cutout silhouette. I also recall seeing a "Holiday Scenes" projector, sold by Walmart (??), that basically consisted of a small slide projector with transparent wheels/strips/slides of cartoon holiday greetings or scenes. Hope this is helpful. |

Hello, I have the original Nelson Spirit Gun. It is indeed pretty cool. It is a modified toy gun, a strip of film is inside the unit, every time you pull the trigger, a new photo appears and the internal bulb lights up to project the image.
The film is very hard ( near impossible ) and VERY expensive to replicate today as it is no used anymore. If you would like a few photo's - p.m. me. Chuck C. http://www.freewebs.com/caputocollection/ |
