Good morning all.

I decided to make a folding coin. For the outside groove I used the only jeweler's saw blade I own, a #2/0. This turns out to be a bit too narrow. Does anyone know which saw blade is typically used for this purpose?

Thanks

John

I've been thinking about starting this same project. Any and all advice would be very welcome. Can anyone recommend blade size for the body as well as for the groove? Also, how difficult/different is it to cut a modern quarter compared to an old silver coin or a mystery metal replica coin?

Thanks!

#10 works! the cut needs to be slightly deeper then the blade thickness.

Thank you.

I also just found out that my #2/0 is a bit too thick for the other cuts, as the lines are visible.

But you know, defacing coins is kinda fun--rather like card splitting.

The pictures are nice, but he doesn't give the blade sizes Smile

Thanks for the link.

John, I'm intrigued by the project...would you mind posting pix of the completed coin?

I've never made a folding coin, but have cut profiles out of US coins for brooches and pendants. A jeweller's 'V block' was essential, and I kept the blade lubed with wax. Very interested in seeing your coin if you don't mind.

Thanks,
Leland

Leland, I use thread cutting oil sometimes while sawing steel by hand. On my Grizzly bandsaw I occasionally lube the blade with graphite. Never used wax, I'll give it a try!
