I have tried to find 5 tricks / routines that play really big that I use in my shows, I don't have a pack flat show myself but I do use these and get great a response to them. As suggested above, it's all in the presentation.

either Tommy James measle teasle wand or silver scepter
Mini hippity hop hares
Backstage vanish (vanishing elephant)
Rocky Raccoon
Appearing 8ft pole

Have fun
Bill

Doesn't matter since all real child peformers use a semi truck w/ 48' and crew of at least four when doing kids shows.

Kandu's Knot Funny (almost flat)
Sean Taylor's Loopy Loops
Tortoise and Hare silk trick (Sonnefelt - again, almost flat)
Frankie the Snowman (need change bag, as does Loopy Loops)
one of several posterboard tricks which pack fairly flat (Supreme Magic Tale of a Cat, Humpty Dumpty, Petshop Pranks)
Duke's Dye Version (again, almost flat)

Hey, the kids deserve it and the parents expect it! Anything less and I won't hire you to subcontract any of my gigs.

Always the sales man Jimbo Smile

Ropes
Egg Bag
Balloon (all the bits of business to be had)
Breakaway Wand
Linking Ribbons

I am suprised on how many times the colouring book has been mentioned, such an age old trick (with clipart suggesting so) it has had much stick in the past as it is now readily available in most magic sets and yet it seems still the professionals choice - just as an observation

I've never been a big fan of the Coloring Book, but when I do repeat bookings or shows for friends of friends, some kid will always request the coloring book.

In no particular order:

Coloring Book
Length of rope and scissors
Thumbtip w/ silks
Hold It Buster
Sponge pickles

Give me a flower box production bag, a Spotty and a What's Next and I'll show you a full-length kids' show packed in a manila envelope.
