Andrei Jikh (one of the most diverse and skilled cardist imo)has released his 1st of his 3 volume debut DVD series 'Genesis'.
http://www.theory11.com/tricks/genesis-by-andrei-jikh.php You can listen to what the man himself has to say in regards to the project here: http://theory11.com/news/news_article.php?NewsID=239 Even though I don't consider myself a beginner and am not a big fan of T11, I would definitely get this DVD myself if I had the money. Usually people would recommend Handlordz' 'Xtreme Beginners' DVD which was certainly the best beginner's DVD, but it seems 'Genesis' has raised the bar. If money is a issue, then you can start of with some free resources: The Virts - http://thevirts.com/ (they have some free tutorials for basic moves and are apparently going to make more. It's definitely worth signing-up to their site) Kevin Ho (of The Virts)- http://www.youtube.com/user/kevhonline More basic flourish tutorials - http://www.youtube.com/user/4jacksFort |

I agree with Mathias. I'm not a big fan of Theory 11 either, but to get started in "Cardistry/Card Flourishing", I would definately get this. I'm not a begginer, but I will be getting this. I've seen some of Andrei's work elsewhere, and I'm really impressed.
To add to Mathias suggestions, Look into getting Dan and Daves Trilogy, or even just Disc 3. It contains "Flourishes 101" (20 classic playing card flourishes performed & explained by Dan and Dave.) as well as a bunch of other eye candy. |

There are some short reviews in the Genesis link above. I guess more in depth reviews will come soon.
Here's a 2nd podcast on Genesis, which was made when the night the DVD was released. http://www.theory11.com/news/news_article.php?NewsID=252 Edit: Here's a more in-depth review: http://forums.theory11.com/showthread.php?t=23299 |

Why do you guys not like Theory11? Or rather, what part of what they do do you not like (there goes my grammar)?

This is mainly an American marketing trait, but they are used to it and discount the claims unconsciously, while we Europeans/Australians/etc find this hype irritating. Same as with American smiles - they have different social meaning as what we're used to |

Books / DVDs that I can recommend:
Jeff McBride AOCM Volumes 1-4 - Indispensable for any card manipulator, my 1st pick. C4 Cap Cuts (Very much worth it for the bridge cut and blind sybil work) Xtreme Beginners 1 and 2 Cradle To Grave Cobra DVD Jerry Cestkowski - EOPCF and Companion DVDs Showoff With Cards (not very good) Roberto Giobbi's card college -Several flourishes in this one David Croft's hinge cuts book - I don't remember the name and I really don't know if it's still available! Very tough stuff though. |
