Thanks,
I was told that you can't get them anymore from MAK Magic. Daytona makes them but they are made from ply. Even the blade is ply covered with aluminum. I make my blades from stainless.

Thanks for reminding me about Daytona Magic. I've got a chapter in the new book about my experiences with all the dealers and they still owe for a dozen wands!! I thought they had gone out of business. I better add that to the chapter called The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Did they buy MAK??

I try to use poplar. Always wanted to make one out of walnut but couldn't see the added expense, and nobody ordered one in walnut. Here's a link to Daytona magic. http://www.daytonamagic.com

Poplar is a good straight wood. The way you have it stained, it looks great to my eyes. I used mine for a card trick similar to the Jumbo Card Guillotine routine except I glued the chosen card to the gaff. I would sign it so the audience would recognize it again. I played it for comedy and putting a six foot tall guillotine on a table makes it play really big and noisy too. Give the deck of cards a shove as the bladed comes through for effect.

Anyway, just rambling when I should be writing. I should vanish for a couple weeks until I get Tabman Magic finished and at the printer.

I'll try but now that Ive reconnected here at the Café it's gonna be difficult.

All the best,

In my experience, poplar sometimes gives a green cast when finished with lighter stains, but it is a wonderful all-around wood for projects.

That's why I usually use a walnut stain.

Oh man, that's a great invite but I can't do a hard days anything anymore and I'm still 8 hours south of Nashville.

Great guilliotine! I started and got to the supporting uprights. I've been away this easter so I didn't get a chance to build and this week the easter hollidays were over. I'll continue the building tomorrow.
