That's almost a brush-off. Not quite, but almost.

If you send a promo pack, you need some "in character" work, explaining how YOU would fit into their faire.

I would avoid the phrase "magic in the house" Smile

I have a couple of friends that do these faires (I attend many myself - dressed in garb of course). Most of them love what they do, but it is not easy work.

Mike...
Dare I ask which Faire you are looking at?
I know most of the faire folk in Michigan pretty well, and each faire has it's quirks. I might be able to help you out. (Costumers, contact folks, etc...)
PM me.

That's a good offer, Mike. Take him up on it. And if you want a set of my notes, let me know. I'm sure we can work something out.

Bill, I want to thank you very much for all the notes. I had no idea there were so many.

A friend of mine performs at that type of festival yearly. He is going to see if he can get me in to under him. If it goes good I can see success with all the notes you gave me, buddy.

Bill Palmer also has some EXCELLENT notes on working ren faires.

I see exactly what you are talking about. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. (And you too, Joe.)

Dynamike,

I've never worked a ren-fair. Here's why...

I went to one once. These folks are not like typical "fair" visitors. They're not out just having a good day with their family.

They're our, having fun with their families - in character, playing their roles, whatever they are. Those folks take it seriously.

I decided that I would be hugely out of my league and did not want to commit the time to learn about that environment etc.

So my best advice - follow Bill Palmer's.

One of the reasons I did not take his offer is because he is not intelligent in giving advice like you. Bill, remember when put the following:

I agreed with you. So instead I thought of a different direction. If I get in subcontracting with my friend, I can keep pictures taken this year. It will put me ahead for next year.

Bill, you know what you are doing and give the right answers. Look at his last post... he gives wrong answers. Smile

I take it that you were not accepted with your promo kit then?
Good luck with getting in through the back door.

Not intelligent?
That sounds like flaming to me...Terribly rude considering my actual intention in my post.
I assumed you had taken his advice and added some "in character" work to your promo pack, and that it was still not accepted. I asked about this- If you had gotten anywhere with your promo.
After that I wished you luck in getting in through the back door.
You seem a bit paranoid when it comes to me...
This saddens me.

Corresponding by writing is fraught with problems regarding tone of voice and/or misreading it. Or forgetting something written earlier. It's easy to get a word in the wrong place, or write something but not be said the best way. It's a problem that I hope we all can look past and write and read with the best of intentions and with respect and sincerity.
On the other hand there is the blessing of advice etc that is in permanent form for refering back to later.
The presentation makes the magic.
