Hello Everyone. My name is Dynamike. This is my first post (in this section). I am a magician. I do use pets in my kids' shows. Because of the economy is so bad in Michigan I was thinking about adding something simple dealing with juggling for about 5 minutes in my act. One thing I was thinking about was plate spinning. Is plate spinning easy? If so, what other juggling effects are easy? Thanks.

You can get the beginner's plate spinning items (I suggest the metal plates though). I use it in my act at the beginning to establish my humanity. Won't give that part away as to what I do as I got permission from another performer to adapt this part for my act. It doesn't last that long though...errr that's not a joke either.
As for other "easy" juggling? Can't help you there except try juggling scarves. |

Which are easier, the plastic ones or the metal ones? Which ones go around longer? I saw Tim Shoesmith do it on his DVD. He let the child hold it also. I am a little nervous of the plate falling down on a different child sitting on the floor. Can that happen in a easy manner?
Juggle Scarves...that sounds like a good idea. Not just because it is easy, but because the colors are good for the kids. It seems like it would keep attention better than the balls towards one year old kids. Thanks, Bill. |

Hi dynamike,
I don't get quite clearly if you are looking for something cheap, something easy or both. Anyway here is what I can say. I hope you can have ideas with that. Bill is right the most easy three objects juggling are scarves (from far), you can also try plastic bags or some kinds of floaty papers. The colour is usually less flashy than with scarves but you get the sound. Can you already juggle a three ball cascade (juggling basic pattern)? If so try juggling with mixed everyday objects kids like it! Kids also like when you juggle with eggs because they just want it to drop and explode (you can cheat it with boiled eggs). You can combine both and use a fresh egg, a pan and a lighted torch (then you must know how to juggle and be confide,t wioth the trick). You just juggle and finish by catcging the torch in one hand, the pan in the other and the egg in the pan!! Bouncing balls are quite fascinating toward kids but you just don't want them go everywhere when you miss (but it's easier than toss/air juggling). Also the basics in flower stick are quite easy to get (definitely use silicone sticks), the same with diabolo but it's more easy to make it fall! The trick when there a string hanged to the sealing and where the diabolo goes all the way up there is quite good with kids. There are also hat manipulations with are involving no throwing that are not that difficult, but usually juggling hats are quite expensive! MP me if you want more advices or links to online videos. |

A juggling club, or a regional juggling convention is where you will learn the most and the fastest, even if you want to be a bad juggler first you have to be a good juggler in order to look bad, in order to do it on stage you have to make it look easy.

It is a real crash course in juggling, just remember to introduce yourself to everybody, ask questions, and you will learn fast. Posted: Sep 18, 2008 12:12pm Mike Practice every day for about 15 minutes, do it over your bed so you don't have to bend over to pick up the balls, measure your success weekly, and you will see steady progress every week. You should not include juggling in your act until you can do fancy tricks effortlessly, while you smile, and are able to talk all at the same time.

I easy understand and agree with about when to include it in my magic act. It takes so much to stay focused. One little distraction brings down everything. |

We say in juggling that we are all standing on the shoulders of the generations of jugglers that preceded us. If you practice the way I told you to all of this will become second nature to you. Perhaps you may enjoy the Dave Finnigan books "the complete juggler", "juggling from start to star", or the Kit Summers book "juggling with finess". Look on ebay sometimes you can get them used.

If you're into ball juggling, check out Jamie Haggar's DVD, Ultimate Ball Juggling. It starts off with the basics, gets into some crazy three ball moves, then starts adding balls in the second half of the DVD. I'm using it right now to learn with. Everything is very clearly explained, and each move is done at speed and in slow motion (I'm guessing that he didn't actually do it in slow motion, they just slowed the video - although that would have been a heck of a trick). How are you doing on your juggling? It is a great tool for me and some of my clients. Last Monday I used ideas from Life lessons learned from Juggling in a group with teenagers.
