I have a trick from a vintage collection:

It consists of:

3 white feather rings (approx 8" diameter, made of feathers and wire)
3 multi colored rings
1 large white ring (folds into what appears to be 3 smaller white rings, but open up in large ring)
1 large multi-colored ring (same design as large white one)

I can imagine what these were used for where rings change colors etc. I think it is similar to Tenyo trick with the paper color-changing records. There is also an ungimmicked paper sleeve that appears to be part of the trick.

Does anyone know the name or routine for this trick?

Kikuchi Feather Rings (Small)

AVAILABLE AGAIN! Made famous by the wonderful Japanese magician who first introduced this concept in America! These are the original versions – NOT COPIES! “Magi” take solid white “feather rings”, one at a time and places each ring into a bag. Taking different colored silks and running them, one at a time, through a hole in the bag and instantly removing the now matching color “feather ring” from the empty bag! This is repeated three times with three different silks and white rings and the color change always matches the colored silk inserted in the middle of the bag. A TERRIFIC FINALE... All three of the colored rings are now placed into the bag and VIOLA …the Magi transforms the three colored rings into one GIANT Feather Ring! Comes in two sizes: Small is 7 inches in diameter and Large is 9 inches in diameter. YOU SUPPLY SILKS! Everything else supplied PLUS a VHS instructional tape.

Available from Stevens Magic Emporium

Yes Rennie, that must be it thanks. My set also has the large white ring, maybe used as a sucker trick where you discover the white rings left in the bag only to reveal they are really one large ring? Just a thought! If someone owns this, I'd love to talk more about it as I still have questions.

Wouldn't it be sort of tough to pull a silk through the hole of an LP? Smile

I have a set of Color-Changing Records (45 RPM)...

On an LP version of this effect, how in the world would you be able to quickly and conveniently poke a silk through the center of the record while it's in the jacket?

Same as the 45 version, the LP still has the hole in centre??

But the larger record, the 33 1/3, has a small hole in the center, smaller than a pencil. In order to play the 45s on a record player, you had to have an attatchment that either slid over the post of the record player, or you had a cheap little plastic piece that fits inside the hole of the 45 record, that made the record fit snuggly on the small post of the record player.

Matt, the other source for those Feather rings, was "Mr X's Magic Studio" in Hayward, CA, back in the late 70's and 80's, he did make a set of them. Since you used to live in the Bay Area, I thought you may have come by them from him.
