Just received this cage in the mail.

Supposedly you are supposed to pull up the side with the metal edge.

No amount of pulling or twisting is doing anything, though.

Am afraid of breaking something in the process.

What am I doing wrong?

Along with the cage, you should also receive a metal piece...shaped like a tiny spoon(Silver) colour)..provided with the cage.

This is used to lift the flap with the black metal piece up.

Nope, no spoon came with cage.

Yes, you should have received a sort of "spoon"... It's not really a spoon in fact but a little metal rod that helps you pull one side of the "mat" to cover the other one.

BTW, you do not absolutely need the rod provided with the cage: you just need to find a rod that will help you do this, a thin screwdriver for example will do the job.
