Greetings ,

I have 1 Female Parakeet with me - 3 yrs old .
Yesterday night shockingly, it laid an egg without a partner. Shock!

I read some books and got to know that a female parakeet can lay eggs without a partner, but the eggs would be not fertilized.

Anyone faced this situation before?

Best Regards

Paradize,

Have no fear. This is perfectly natural behavior for a parakeet. If all eggs had to be fertilized, there would be none in the grocery stores in the USA.

You simply have a healthy bird.

Enjoy!

Hmm...that sounds like good news. But lemmewarn yu that breding birds is no easy. My doves ave laid so many eggs but none have eventually become chicks. conditions are essential and its not easy to provide the right ones.

I had four doves and they were breeding like mad and eventualy ended up with about 12! I had to give my doves to 2 other magicians after I got a six month contract overseas and could'nt take the birds with me! I now have 4 doves again and they do lay a lot of eggs, at one stage they had six in one nest, but none of them has hatched so far, this is just strange to me?
