When learning to hop on a unicycle how do you start? What is proper foot postion are you feet level or in idle postion? Is step before hopping but after idling?

Thanks

fireperformer911,
I'll try to answer your questions ...

1. Grab the seat with one hand (or the other) and start jumping.
2. Feet/pedals are level to the ground for best height for takeoffs and landings.
3. I don't understand your third question ...

Watch this for inspiration:

Good stuff...some of my favorites, as well. The Chinese girl is the only one that I have not seen yet.
Here is one of my favs.
Not only is this girl a super hot cyclist... she is also "easy on the eyes".

Anton & my brother Al,

Sure those are all great clips yet have little or nothing to do with jumping and hopping. Here's another, cleaner, kickup video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U10IWU_XDPk&feature=related

Love the comment where the guy said:
"Wow.. that magic trick is ez... all you gotta do it get a few strings and tie 'em to the ceiling and the plates and stuff. when you get to the bottom of your stride just kick up and the plates stack on each other. Pretty obvious... "

I suppose he's kidding, yes ...?

Ciao now,
AL

Love the mascot.

Back to the original question. When I jump onto the uni I hit the pedals leval. While this whole promo is great (frank is a great dude) at 343 he does a leval pedal mount onto the uni.

This is actually the clip of that "unicycle/multiple bowl kickup" trick that I saw originally. I love the way that the crowd totally explodes when she hits the trick... What a sound.
Of course, I realized that the clip did not contain any jumping or hopping...
... however, I still posted it, just to offer some cool unicyling stuff to be inspired by.

Anton,

Thanks for the Frank Olivier link. It was great. I MC'd a show in Atlanta years ago and Frank was in the audience. It was a pretty loose show and Frank came back stage and asked me if he could do a bit. I said sure !! I intro'd him and he went out on stage with no props and in 4-5 mins had the audience whipped into a frenzy. He's a funny, talented man. I appreciate your link and the wonderful memories it brings back.

:O)

Remember the stories about Houdini where he would challenge someone to hit him in the stomach as hard as they could? The show was a midnight caberet' show and ... well Frank did this sideshow like thing that was kind of similar. He did a verbal build up to the bit then invited a couple of big guys up from the audience. He then challenged them to kick him between the legs as hard as they could ... I know, it sounds wacked but he did it and made it hilarious. I know there had to be a gaff but to this day I don't know how he did it.

To those of you reading this - Don't try this at home or on a public stage. Frank is a trained professional and none of his material should be attempted by anyone, anywhere, anytime ...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

On topic: Frank did no unicycle tricks - hopping or otherwise ...

Thanks for all the videos helps to see hopping on Unicycle. I can hop three times so far will get it down in a couple weeks probably. The juggling and eating an apple is so incredible. The shaolin monks do the kicking in the groin as well. I would rather fall of a very tall unicycle that ever try that stunt. Thanks to all.

I have both fallen and been kicked in the crotch. If you fall right its the better of the two.

Don't forget the hopping technique of simply squeezing your thighs around the saddle and keeping your hands out for balance. It chaffs a bit, but you'll get pretty *** strong doing it, and some people find it easier.
