Yes it is possible, but you will not get smooth edges and of course there is always a risk to cutting yourself rather badly.

Yeah, it is real. I read this in an old magic science book when I was a wee one. Of course I had to try it! It does indeed work. Not exactly a neat pretty cut, but it works. It had an effect on me similar to chewing tin foil.
Leaping Lizards!!! Who knew it was possible.

I havnt tryed it yet .looks like something with heating the edge make it work better? chewing tin foil can make your teeth hurt especially with amalgum fillings!!! LOL
I`ll let all you know how my experiment with that glass cutting works.

Turn us into a human lightning rod AL, lol. Has anyone actually tried to do the cutting glass trick yet? I`m going to find the time this week to try it in my shop.
Today I tried that trick using tin snips and a standard thickness glass. Started with a bucket of cold water, it worked well the pieces cut off broke into smaller pieces. I used the lighter like they did, and it seem to cut a little easier. I also did it out of the water; the glass cut a little more jagged and spilled a lot on the large piece. The second time out of the water the main piece broke into several crooked pieces. It was a interesting experiment. Have any of you tried to do this trick?
