I have something currently in the build stage and we're looking at releases for a dropping blade. We're currently going to go with a mechanical mechanism and then upgrade to an electromagnetic release later.

Does anyone know where I can find, or who can make an electromagnetic release of that sort? What are the things worth?

Silly question, but do you absolutely HAVE to use an electromagnetic release? In my experience, the more complex you make something, the better the chance for failure.

Anyhow, what are you trying to release? I would think that some type of solenoid would be what you need. This appears to be a good source of information:
