Joe Porper makes some great gaffed poker chips!

I just saw some a couple of weeks ago. Joe is another great craftsman and makes some incredible stuff.

I don't think that Jamie does any poker chips.

Hope that helps?

Again, the answers to all your questions are contained in Machinery's Handbook, and is available in both Printed Edition and CD at this address: http://www.industrialpress.com/en/default.aspx

If someone mentioned this, I missed it. If you had a milling machine to make a shell, what would you need to expand the shell?

I have a cousin who is a genius working with metal. For years, I've thought about trying to team with him and making a few unique coin gaffs.

Wes65,

If your cousin is a genius working with metal, he would know the answer.

I won't have time to work on this in the near future, but I'm wondering if a poker chip, being plastic, could be heated and stretched slightly so that another chip could be pressed into it part way. The second (smaller chip) could then be thinned to fit the impression it made....just a thought.

Casino poker chip are made of a special type of clay, not plastic.

Do you think that a local metal smith would be capable of shelling coins?

I would think that if he could, then it would cost just as much as going with Lassen or Schoolcraft. I could be wrong, though. I would also think that, even if it was cheaper, the quality would not be so great. If that's the case, then wouldn't it be better to go with Johnson? Seems some people are going about this the hard way.

I'm currently debating whether to buy a nice set, and if I do, it's probably going to be a very expensive order. So I'm trying to think of an alternative before I take the lunge!

Realize, if you buy silver shells, the metal is much softer than the nickel-copper-alloy or whatever the other shells are made of. They are more easily bent and damaged. And specials like flippers, etc...can be downright fragile.

Just another thought to balance as you make your decision.

It is highly unlikely that you will find coins equal to those of Todd or Jamie, whatever the price, whatever the source. The cost of coins from either of these makers is actually very reasonable, considering the time and expertise necessary to make these. I would not personally hire a local machinist to make gaffed coins, as there is certainly a lot of trial and error involved to get to the level of Todd and Jamie. Other possible makers are Lance DeLong and Roy Kueppers, but I don't know what their coins are like, having only purchased (many) from Todd and Jamie. Good luck -

Yes we are still making poker chip items and plan on adding newer items in the near future.
