I've seen a few good ideas relating to the $100 Bill switch, but none of them address the motivation for folding the bill repeatedly. So why fold?

Actually, I think that is a good question. One of the things I've found is that patter is more important than technique a lot of the time. Doing a lot a fancy gesticulations to "prove" a hand is empty is often more likely to point out your doing something devious and should be watched simply.

So when you doing a bill swap effect, I think the creation of some logical reason for folding it down makes sense. Even if it has nothing to do with the effect:

"I'm making the bill a little smaller and harder to see so you don't won't know how to do this in the future."

"If you want to make big money, you've got to start with a little money..."

"There's an old saying that the easiest way to double your money, is to fold it in half...hey, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again."

"Some people like to stall a bit by folding the bill over and over..."

"There is a very good reason to fold the bill in half and in half again. I don't remember what it is, I just know there is a very good reason."

Okay...I know those a pretty cheesey, but I just thought them up on the spur of the moment. But I think it helps the effect to provide the audience with a reason for why you are doing something...even if it's wrong or a bold faced lie. It's very tiny distraction for them...and sometimes that's enough.

1) If you fold a dollar in half it is 50% smaller than it was.
2) Fold it in half again and it is 75% smaller than the original.
3) Fold it in have again and it is now 87% smaller than the original.
4) Fold it in have again and it is now 93% smaller than the original.
5) No matter how many times you fold it you can never make it 100% smaller than it originally was.
6) (As you reveal) But you can make it 100 Times Bigger.

Is that enough motivation for folding?

It always comes down to how the performer presents the effect. I like a lot of the above ideas and they give some very good points that could be built on.

The doubling your money one is good. I use it with Hundy 500 as well.
-A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.
-It is easier to fight for one's principles than to live up to them.
-The secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything.

Check out Moneymorph. It is good motivation for folding. Great routine for the mismade bill.

Here is the best patter line I have come across for the bill fold if you transform it into the Mis-Made Bill.

Queston to spectators? "WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE HOW I CAN TURN THIS DOLLAR BILL INTO FOUR QUARTERS?" Fold the bill into quarter!!

Check out the Juan Hundred dollar bill switch. No folds at any point during the bill switch.
