I just stumbled upon this on line. I don't know if someone made it with an image editing program or if it's really placed on a truck. If it's an unedited picture then it would be neat to see in real life.

After regaining my ability to hear after 20 years of deafness. I learned that there is magic all around you. The simplest sounds that amazed me you probably ignore. Look and listen around you right now. You'll find something you didn't notice before.

Wrong, Rinse. There is a whole series of trucks in Germany painted with different 3D themes like this. A friend sent a set of four or five of them to me, but I can't find them now. (Darn it.) Like some magic, the images are VERY subject to angles. Smile

There's also a guy who does some very convincing 3D sidewalk chalk work here:

There's something about the image quality of the beer bottle relative to the rest of the image that makes it look very fake and photoshopped, but I'll take your word for it.

Thanks for the link to the sidewalk chalk drawings. Those are fantastic! ..And do not look photoshopped. Smile

As I understand it, they used a computer extensively to calculate and generate the images necessary to make the 3D effect come out just right when transferred to their trucks, and the sides of the trucks look really weird when you see them side-on. So, yes, in the photos taken from just the right angle, they do look almost too good to be true, but they're real.

Wow that sidewalk art is astounding. That guy might be fun to have around.
Is there anywhere else online that his work is posted?

How come the background is identical on all those images at

http://www.ebaumsworld.com/truckillusions.html

?

They have only changed the cutting, intensity and contrast. Check out the square pattern on the wall in front of the truck. Identical on all images.

I don't doubt that these trucks exist but I have no idea why they have faked these images instead of taking photos of the real trucks.

They're not real photos. Just digital mockups created for an advertising competition:

It would be way cool to see these in real-life though. Trompe l'oeil on steroids.

Ah-ha! So we're all right. The photos on the web are of digital mockups, but the winners of the contest were created for real! Smile

Even a small model would be cool for my show case.

That is IF it really works in real world.

You'd only have to (a) watch the viewing angle, and (b) close one eye (assuming the model is much smaller and closer than a full-size truck). Then it should work fine.

I once wasted a lot of time
patiently trying to help a
friend learn to view 3-D
"Magic Eye" pictures.

I didn't realize he had a glass eye.
