Hi everybody !!
I'm very fond of the Andrus' work on optical illusions... After some research, I found these two video clips: http://www.campusfreethought.org/avlib.htm I hope that this link is new on the forum...if not, please excuse me, next time I'll do a better google research! See you! |

If you like these clips you would absolutely love the DVDs "A Lifetime of Magic." These are packed with Jerry's performances, explanations and optical illusions. This is one of those sets that I never get tired of watching.

Ok, I already found it, but most of the effects are card tricks.
Does he also explain how to build the optical illusion with the nuts? Are there also dvd´s existing that only shows and explain optical illusions?

No he doesn't explain how to build it, he does show it from all sides though. You should be able to figure it out.
As far as effects, I have #2 and there is Zone Zero, the ball and tubes, and the Mylar mystery in addition to the card effects. IOU is a card effect like nothing I have seen before. Jerry deliberatly does his own research and creation of effects. He says that he doesn't even know the name of most of the moves that magicians talk about. Scott

Recently, I learn his plexi thing with a ball appearing and dematerialize into a hole in the plexi.
Nice effect in my clear ball routine! I like all Andrus thinking, great inventor! |

Hi Lawrens...
thanks for sharing. I agree, Jerry Andrus has a very creative mind. I posted a note in "Not very magical still..." regarding his Dragon Illusion which can be seen on YouTube...and you can download this item from http://www.grand-illusion.com...and it works a treat...incredible! Does anyone know where I can see or download his Paradox Box illusion? regards, wulfiesmith |

I was there in Atlanta at this video taping of Jerry Andrus in 2001, at a conference of the Center for Inquiry (Andrus is a Fellow and supporter of CSICOP, one of CFI's public education organizations). I bump into him occasionally, and saw him again at the Magic Castle one of the times I was in L.A. recently, or maybe it was this summer for the Magic for Skeptics event we put on with Jamy Ian Swiss. Andrus is one of my favorite thinkers in magic. I'll see about getting some more video clips of his stuff up on the campusfreethought.org site.

Candini, I have got Zone Zero but only just begun practising it, so cant speak from much experience. I don't imagine that if done well distance should be a big problem although obviously it is not a close-up item. Angles have to be watched a little I think, especially if you are on a high stage, to get the move being invisible. Another issue may be the size of the hole if you buy the ready made board. My hands are not so big, and I wish the hole was larger. But hopefully others with more actual working experience can put some input on this.
