Does anyone know the very first purpose of it? Was it to make the coin in a bottle? The bitten coin? I actually have no clue...

Original purpose?

Check out the older books like the one by Robert-Houdin and see how it was used back then.

I think it was coin in a bottle. Definitely not the coin byte routine first.

There was also an old trick involving a BullDog clip on a board I remember from many years ago. The real coin was released from the clip, passed out for inspection and then vanished. The coin reappeared in the BullDog clip.

The coin was wrapped in a handkerchief, and a ring was threaded on and the coin was "locked" inside the handkerchief... but (thanks to it folding) the magician could get the coin out, or actually could get the ring off over the coin.

Joe Porper is about to release this made in a Poker Chip!!!!!

My copy of Bobo's Modern Coin Magic, Magic Inc. edition, fourth printing, has an editors note on page 286 "Editor's Note: the folding coin was described in More Magic (1890), but its usefulness was not fully realized in that day".

Bobo's book was originally copyrighted in 1952 and contains both the biting of a coin and the Coin in Bottle, as well as the effect that Pete described.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Am I the only one who can't seem to get that teeny, tiny rubber band on all three pieces of the d**n thing? I am, aren't I? Smile

Thanks, Bill. After trying everything, I was beginning to suspect that might be the trick. I'll keep at it. I know I've fixed it at least once before, but that's been years ago.

Bob,
I am almost sure that was one by Steve Dusheck.

I finally figured out my folding quarter had some gunk in the grooves left over from a twelve-year-old rotting rubber band! Cleaned that out and now it's no problem getting it back together. Guess that's what happens when you don't maintain your equipment, huh? Smile
