So, I just got married last week and I am now searching through my magic books for tricks using rings. I never used to where a ring before and never practiced much magic using them.
could anyone point me in the right direction of some great routines using wedding bands. thanks. |

There's tons of ring and string/cord/shoelace routines out there, too many to name.
A links: http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/magstring.htm http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......;forum=4 In addition to these thimble and coin sleights work well. The book "Magic with Finger Rings" - Jerry Mentzer may help. ______ W/ elastic bands: "Rubber Ringer" - The Collected Almanac. "Pinnacle" - Russ Niedzwiecki (DVD) ______ W/ spoon: "Stirring Silver" Jay Sankey. W/pen/pencil: Using ring on wand moves. |

Try the search function ring and string routines have been discussed here on the Café’ several times before.
For example you will find: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......;forum=4 and http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......;forum=4 or even http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......;forum=4 or this one http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......;forum=4 or a novel one http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......;forum=4 I came up with four pages using the search function. These will get you started. I recommend that you not use your wedding band. At least don’t let your new five see how caviler you are about it!

I do a Copper/Silver transposition using two coins or a silver dollar and my wedding band. Pure sleight of hand with no extra coin or band using a totally new sleight never revealed before. It's described in my new book 21st Century Coin Mechanics in Chapter 15. Click the link below or my banner on the main page for more info. The book just came out so early reviews can be found in the Book review section of the Café.

I would again say that most sleights using coins will work for rings, as would something like the raven.

There’s the old trick where the ring climbs up a rubber band.
On PSI Series Volume 2, Banachek has a nice book-test using a ring. On the same DVD, he also performs a lie detector type experiment involving a ring (although it is not necessary to use a ring). Finally, Barrie Richardson’s “Spooky Key” requires the performer to wear a ring (although the focus of the trick is the key). Thanks, Elliott |

You can do Russ Nedzwieki's Pinnacle.

I agree. Pinnacle is a great effect with a ring.

Greg Wilson's Ring Fright is a neat trick.

Thanks for the suggestions. pinnacle keeps getting mentioned and is one of the few rings tricks I already perform. I thought of another one I'd like to try -- 'a familiar ring' by paul gertner.
any other favourites? |

Float it using Mesika's loops (much more effective with a borrowed ring, though).

Remove the wedding ring, do a vanish, ala Thimble move. As I hold up the hand supposedly holding the wedding ring, I slip the wedding ring back on my Ring finger.
The reason is that the wedding ring always finds its home. I also am left handed. John |

Gary Oulette had a great effect where you borrow two rings, thread them both on a pencil at opposite ends and have the two specs hold each end of the pencil. You step away as one of the rings slides over the pencil to join the other.
Maybe someone has a reference, I can't think of it right now. Jeff Pierce

Daniel Garcia's routine "Stretch" (from his lecture notes called "NEXT") is a three phase routine using a ring and a rubberband. You can see one of the phases from this routine (called "Ringlink Bros" in the notes) in his new DVD, Daniel Garcia Project volume 1, as "Rubber Made".

My Personal Safe from Daniel Garcia's DGP1 and Blueprints lecture notes is also worth a mention. Although you get an even better reaction when the ring is borrowed. It's basically a coin's across routine in the spectators hands using the ring to help the "audio aspect" of the coins going across. It finishes with the ring vanishing from the spectators hand and changing places with a coin. I've even fooled a magician friend with it.
