Hey everyone!
I'm not sure if this was asked yet but I'm sure you guys can help me. I have a fantasio vanishing candle that I have used forever and everyone knows a piece of apparatus does NOT last forever. This is the twist. During a show, I managed to break the piece that holds the wick right off. There is now nothing but a hole, sort of like a vanishing flute. I was wondering, because I do not want to throw this away, what type of effects that I could do with this former vanishing candle?

Now you have a color changeing candle. If your candle was white by a red candle or visa versa for a red candle. Get just the hollow top from Fantasio or make one by takeing a marker pen and remove the felt and cut it down the same size as your tank holder. Cut off the neck of the marker. You now have a shell for the tip to fit over the new candle for the color change.
This idea was published in one of the David Ginn books on Fantasio Candles. |

The original Atomic Candle, long before Fanasio, was adapted from a Chinese Yo-Yo type toy called a "Zoomerang" made out of a waxy paper. The wick was just a little tube glued inside the narrow end of the candle and a birthday-size candle was inserted to simulate the wick of the larger "candle". It worked and the candle itself actually looked better than the Fantasio plastic efforts.

Yes, I said production of the vanishing white candle. I'll post a video clip to demo soon. Method is so good that the appearing candle is useless. I've tried the appearing candles and they are junk as I can't control it. Once you set it off (even with tension) it's not there when it should be. My clip will blow you away when you consider it is a collapsible candle. |

I use the disappearing candle for productions and vanishes. I believe that I have seen Lance Burton use this before. It is much more versatile. I do like the appearing candles too. They are better at the end of a routine when it appears you are done. The production is lightning quick.
I still have my original Atomic Candle. I bought it from a Marshall Brodien catalog when I was a kid. It has a birthday candle as the wick. I never cared for this too much as the paper did not allow for operation. Jim |

F.Y.I.> the Atomic Candle routine called for "vanishing" under a scarf = very effective if presented properly i.e. candle vanishes, performer then produces dove, flowers, or a bowl of water from the scarf.

Atomic Candle was one of the first tricks I purchased. It sold for about $3, so it was a big decision, to spend that much money. I was very glad when Fantasio came out with his version.
I recentlly came across the metal Merv Taylor Vanishing Candle. Very nice. I don't know why more magicians at the time did not use it. I also seen an original Fantasio candle. One of the 1st made. It is very different then the ones today on the market. It is fun to see the older items. |

I also only use vanishing candles for both productions as well as for vanishes. It is more versatile and dependable for me and I can use them with my candle vanish to rose move to a much greater effect and have better control over the move every time.
Fantasio has two videos out that were lectures at the magic castle. He also has a book out. They are great resources indeed. Kyle

Just because you have no wick, it does not mean that it can not be gestured that it is still a candle. For example, you can appear the candle, reach for a match. you look at no wick and suddenyl the match goes out if by magic. Then you can shrug your shoulders and vanish the candle and change it into a rose. It would work easily and give to a nice presentation.

This may be a silly question but how would the match go out, apart from use water, but that would not give good timing or it might soak up to much to the head? daz

Daz I hate to say it, but I do not know what you are talking about... Please clarify...
And just in case I do understand... couldn't you just blow the match out?

Well, magic4u02 said have the match go out on its own, how would you do that? I thought he meant put water half way down so when it burned to it, it would go out, but then wouldnt the water soak up tot he match head, stopping it from lighting altogether? is that clearer? lol, daz

If you're holding it between your index and middle fingers you can flick the unlighted end with your free thumb. This will make a quick snapping motion of the lighted matchhead and will blow out the flame.

Jeff,
Just e-mail Fantasio at his web site: http://www.fantasio.com/ and ask him what to do. He might send you a replacement or just the peice that you need. That's what I did and he was a great big help. Best, Jeff
