hi,

I am gonna start performing on the streets soon, to gain some confidence, and show my magic to some new people. My mates have seen the tricks so many times now, their getting bored with it.

Anyway....

I wanna stick with cards at the moment, and was wondering what card effects you guys use when performing for people in the street that pack a really big punch. I use a few ellusionist tricks at the moment, and a couple of my own, but a lot of tricks seem to depend on you having access to a surface such as a table which i don't like.

Thanks

ps. i already know how everyone views ellusionist, so please lets not turn this into another ellusionist ethical debate, as is so with all other posts where their name is mentioned

I've been having some good luck with Abracadabra. If you can in-jog and do a good DL, it has a good effect on spectators.

If you've learnt from the ellusionist vids then you're probably familiar with 'Here then There'. A fantastic effect. DL, DL, BANG! It leaves people stunned. It does require the top of the deck to be pre-arranged but it's worth it. Best opener I know of.

I've done it with a color change. I show a red card and place it under their hand. I then show a blue card and wave it over their hand. The cards switch places woo hoo lol. I don't use this anymore because I think people will suspect a dup.

I find that using the punters hand as a table surface, Roy Waltons "Oils and Queens" is a Killer effect, you show eight cards, four black and four red. two red and two blacks are placed between the punters palms and you show two red and two balck left in your hand. Then instantly you show you now have four red in your hand, Your spectator would be amazed if they now had the four blacks but are gobsmacked when they find they have the four queens between their hands. Also Alex Elmsleys Twisting the Aces is a killer, try and make as much happen in their hands as possible and your onto a winner Smile

By the way The Roy Walton book with this effect in is available from Davenports Magic Company in LOndon (England) Smile

Yeah and if you are familiar with ellusionist, you can just stand there before you do the trick and do a couple of false shuffles. They will think there is no way that you can control the cards.

Tricks that I have been successfully using on the street include:
Back In Time (Sankey)
Card To Pocket (a few different versions)
Ambitious Card
Haunted Pack (i use loops for this, plus you can do other things as well)
Two Card Monte
Three Fly (Different versions)
Those are just a few, and they have been paying the bills for a while.

I recently hit the streets for the first time (its addicting, I'll tell ya now) and I was havin the same prob, most of my best ish with cards needed a surface. when that's not available, my faves are:
-here then there
-dr. daley's last trick
-backlash (previously mentioned, good to hear someone else uses it)
- sequential cards to pocket
-whatever ambitious routine I'm in the mood for

Lost,
I had never thought of it that way before.

Dr. Tezza,
I have been playing with something from Fulves More Self-Working Card Magic. It is a hanndling of the Dating Game. I am getting great reactions from it.

I have also been playing with "invisible coin". I have been able to work it as a strolling bit. It has been amazing. The quarter disappearing and the penny appearing... is a very nice finish. I carry a glass for water - grin.

Cheers - El Lamo

if not, find some way you can nail your stranger by coming up with your own card prediction premise after using a force.

Dr_tezza... Jusat start doing what you already know. To take a project and jam it with new material is a disaster... what you do best is what to do. You don't need hundreds of tricks.

Defantly ambitiouse card, as long as you have a quick and efficiant force. The climax is perfect, and make sure that you make it perfect by looking them in the eye and really getting into the trick.

The rising deck is pretty cool, pyro perception, and a marked deck.
And I deffinitly agree with Oz fan on getting the ambitious card and 2 card monte, I recommend Daryl's ambitious card.
