I was curious if anyone or knows anyone who has built this
illusion besides Jason Bishop.

The Travel that was published in Jim Steinmeyer's
Techniques & Understanding.

I would be interested in receiving a video of other performers
and seeing how they would present the illusion.

I am showing an early version of Jason performing
The Travel this afternoon at my lecture.

Please let me know or PM me.

Thanks.

I'd love to see this. Will Jason allow you post the clip? I love this effect and have considered adding it to my show.
It's all in the reflexes.

I know Jason has the video on you tube but I believe it is locked. I am not sure if he has done another since, as this was
An early version. I will ask Jason if he has since integrated this illusion. What I have is an early test rehearsal.

I did show it on my lecture I am more than happy to share the link and pass code for it, if you want to sit through
Two hours of me babbling.

Let me know.

Marshall,

May I ask what is the subject of your lecture, and why you are interested in this particular illusion.

I had passed this in Mr. Steinmeyer's book as the description is somewhat difficult to understand.
I believe there is some footage of the Travel on the promo montage of Jason Bishop, but not the full illusion.

I am most interested to see a performance of this so that the description becomes clear.
I wonder how the audience reacts to this, as there seems to be only one solution if they are questioning the "how" of the effect.
Yours Magically,
Lee Alex

It's a history lecture on the magic life & times of De Yip Loo.
And The Travel was an illusion that was long forgotten for almost 40 years
except Jim had remembered it and used it as a basis of many of
his illusions. Because of Jim remembering this, he was able
to procure the rights to the illusion and put it in book.
It's quite an ingenious idea and I've been trying to locate
the original for quite sometime but I'm sure it's no longer around.

Since this illusion is relatively knew to the magic community, I
would like to gather as many magicians performing it with their
story so I can include this in Volume Two of my Book Project.

I just saw the new promo video of Jason performing it.
It's basically slicing the girl into 7 pieces, then appears
in front of the swords.

It's a very quick illusion.

Nice work ... I remember seeing that one on their site. Looks like it's got to be something very similar. How well do you think that one travels?

The original was plain swords and in 7 pieces.
It can be modified in any way with more or less swords.
Either way, the origin of the illusion is the same principle.

This is different looking prop than Jason's. His prop rolling part in other word base much smaller. I might be wrong but as I see on the picture after you put the swords in place you need to slide the box ahead while the swords still in the same spot. I think 16 swords way too much. I like Jason's prop better plus I like that the magician actually working. I mean he makes the dramatic movements when he cuts and not just push the box ahead.

Las

If the box is sliding instead of the swords, as pictured above, the method must be different because all swords cross the box at the same time.
As for the original design, described in the book, it´s nice to know this illusion has finally been built. There are more gems waiting to be freed from the printed page in that book and in the Conjuring Anthology.

In fact, if the box ( The Travel)is sliding with all swords at the same time, the effect will be much more powerful!

I see the base that slides forward.

In all respects, It would still be the same illusion.
Because it's based on the same concept. The girl behind
the swords is sliced through and is in one piece in front
of the swords.

Here's why I say what I say.

When Louie first re-created the Light Built Cabinet it
was from the same concept as Blackstone, Sr. used.
Later, when Dan Witkowski wanted him to build one, he
requested that the light bulbs be pushed from the back
instead of the front. Although Louie, did not build it
for him, because he did have time do do performing.

I saw Orson Welles perform this version.

No matter the bulbs were pushed from the back or front,
it's still the same illusion. Whether the swords are
pushed from the base of the illusion. It's the same illusion.
Because the end result are the same.

Hi Marshall

Other performer of this illusion is Edama, from Europe. Try contacting him. His plot includes some twists like the magician being trapped inside whith hands in full view.

Regards.

I had the pleasure this evening of seeing Jason Bishop
perform this illusion tonight.

He honored my father (along with myself and husband)
and we were honored to see him perform this almost lost
illusion. I'm still amazed that it could have been forgotten.

We are so happy to have seen his presentation along with
meeting him and his assistant Kim. They did a great job
and I know it made dad feel very proud. I wish my mom was
around to see it, but I know she is very happy and smiling
down at this moment.

Jason was extremely excited to present this illusion with
the creator in the audience. I'm just happy that he was
nearby for us to come out.
