The March issue of Genii has some fascinating interviews regarding the fate of The Magic Castle. As I understand it, the Glover family owning the property has decided not to renew the lease held for decades by Milt Larsen, in his 70s. They claim concern about longevity of the business plan, and want to take over the food and beverage operations (but Larsen worries they will then be able to control the shows). To do so, the Glovers are dealing to offer a lease to a new, intermediary, group that includes some magicians. So: Larsen and magi threaten to move Magic Castle to another location, fearing interfernce with creative decisions by the Glovers and this new group! Glovers are worried that the business end will fall apart eventually! The new group wants to help ensure Magic Castle stays around forever (but surely stand to make some money out of this)! Everyone is right, and no one feels the other is right. Gennii has managed to do a splendid job of presenting all sides. What does everyone think of this? To me, it is the classic situation of talent and management locking horns. The future of the Magic Castle appears to be at stake.
