Howdy Buckeroos and Buckerettes!

It’s Yer Ol’ Pal... The Dead Ranger.

My actual given name is David (kinda boring, huh?) and I am known far and wide as "The Dead Ranger", "Der Perfezzor", the "King of Bahoudii", and occasionally.... "that guy with the long hair and beard".

I’m about 42 (last time I counted) but my spirit is still a teenager (now, If I could just convince the creaks and pains in my physical being of that...)

I’ve been ’magish’-ing for about eight (8) months but have loved the art since the first time I was asked to "participate" in a kids magic show (at a McDonalds of all places) in about 1968.

On a whim I checked the internet one day a few months back to see if there were any shops in the New Orleans area since I was going for the weekend and figured it would be an interesting diversion to check out what was there that maybe I could "get into". After checking out a few "tourist trap" magic shops, I happened to wander into Big Easy Magic in the French Quarter (shameless plug for Mark and Doug).

The guys there were pleasant and helpful and very understanding when I and my

"significant other" expressed an interest in "becoming magicians". Needless to say we’ve spent our kids inheritance by now....

I am absolutely fascinated by IT work, mentalism, I think Kenton Knepper is a

demi-god (at least),

Carl Cloutier’s work is fantastic, well.... you get the general idea of where my head is at.

Due to a minor birth defect with one hand, my sleight of hand is abysmal and involved pasteboard work is pretty much impossible, although I’m always looking for ways around it... hence the bent toward the other areas of interest.

My philosophy about effects is;

"If it doesn’t kill me, it won’t kill my spectators", so I tend to shy away from most "stock effects".

I’m not that impressed with David Blane, never have been... or David Copperfield or Doug Henning (too overblown).... I lean toward the "less known" artists and "bizarre" crowd.

Gee.... I guess that pretty much covers the ground. If anyone wants to know more... ask!

WOW!!!! Welcome to the Cafe Ranger!!!

I understand you when you say you came back to magic. I did the same thing after laying off for a few years (a few???? come on, get real) and with the internet, I was able to establish my connection not only with magic itself, but also some magic friends I have not seen in years.

I look forward to reading your postings and ideas. Smile
