I thought this might help some new magicians looking to get into stand up shows and not knowing where to start.
I wrote two posts on what I learned below. https://davidung.substack.com/p/5-things......om-close https://davidung.substack.com/p/5-more-t......ing-from |

Nice read, thanks for sharing.
One important piece of advice I learned from Vito Lupo was eye contact. If you are showing a prop to people in front of you, look at (in the eyes) the people towards the back of the house. If you hold up a prop to show people in the back of the house, look (in the eyes) those that are in front of you. This technique "involves" your audience and they feel valued and are more interested.
Guilt will betray you before technique betrays you!

Thanks and yes, that's a great technique! People forget that there is more to magic that your hands, and your eyes can do soo much to accentuate your magic.

Also if ever doing Vent - so many vents look away when talking to the figure and when the figure is talking - do you look away when listening or talking to another person. Some times it's fun to ALSO look amazed at the finish of a trick - like, 'did I do that ?' - Do not be a "Look at BIG ME".
