The ones that work on your hands. I have used the sloped Clorox bottle caps. I’ve Also used beer bottle caps and water bottle caps (and casino dice, sugar cubes, and even thimbles).

With Chink-A-Chink per se, do you palm the items, or simply slide them?

Neither, the classic secret move is to use the thumb. Trying to palm an items is usually a total give away, unless some kind of adhesive that is easy to release.

Bill, can you clarify or explain further by what you mean by use the thumb?

How so, exactly? (Not a thumb palm, I’m guessing.)

Thanks in advance!

Doesn't matter where this thread ends up being discussed. The fact that the name of the effect was used in the topic heading makes it an easy Google for any muggle to investigate.

Where are you getting this information from ?

The earliest reference I have in my personal library is in Sachs Sleight of Hand, with sugar lumps - and while it just says "palm" rather than "classic palm", the subsequent dialogue implies it is indeed the classic palm that is used.

Its also been the classic palm in every other description I've read of the effect.

You've mentioned the Stars of Magic book on here before. If you have it handy, check the Chink-a-Chink item in there, it too uses classic palm.

Paul Daniels did a Max Malini act, in which he recreated Malinis effects - same methods and procedures. And he too used classic palm.

The sliding method is more or less unique to coins.

To answer the OP - any caps that work well for you will be the best, for YOU.
Beer bottle caps are one of my favourite props to use for the trick. These are super easy to palm due to the shape of the edge.

If you find yourself performing seated, or even out for a meal with friends, there is a great Chink-a-chink in David Regals Constant Fooling (vol 2), that uses beer bottle caps. It uses a handkerchief as well and has a bottle of beer production to close.

Classic Palm works well for caps, dice, candies, sugar cubes.

Can't remember whose effect it is but a Genii issue about a year ago had John Gustaferro (sorry I know I must have butchered the spelling) doing a writeup of an effect using 3 beer bottlecaps. Had a Bermuda Triangle theme to it. I just recently started playing around with it and I find you can p**m the caps quite easily with no giveaways. The routine uses a combo of that and just plain sliding.

Love this trick. Saw Jerry Sadowitz do this on tv when I was a bunter. Amazing memories.

That routine in GENII was Gregg Webb's. John changed Gregg's routine a little bit when it went to print.

Gregg Webb has a lot of effects using bottlecaps in his various ebooks. (Also a slew of free tricks from his old -- and now defunct -- FEENX web site.)

If you like Gregg's bottlecap matrix, you should check out his 3-way coin matrix with cards called "Tri-Matrix Plus." (With kicker loads under all three cards.)

Watched your clip of weights.

After some thought I think that presentation is the best that can be done with that concept.

The audience clearly understands what is happening and it looks absolutely magical.

I care not about the technical details. The presentation is just great.

My compliments.

If anyone is interested in obtaining a set of brass weights to perform a chink-a-chink style routine, feel free to message me. You would get a set of the brass weights as well as the routine Bob Sheets and I created and refined over a year and a half. The routine has 4 distinct phases and 11 magic moments.
