OK, a couple of weeks ago I got a real nice Hot Rod with the Eddy Ray DVD that I really, really liked. But my wife who tries to learn a few tricks here and there had a more difficult time with a larger heavier Hot Rod. So I tried to get her one of the more traditional size and weight Hot Rod, the black plastic style that has been around for years. But the two I bought over the Internet had plastic gems that would come unglued and fall off. I guess you get what you pay for. So now as I am shopping around on the net, I really can't tell from the pictures which Hot Rods truly have some quality about them?

So my question is, is there a Hot Rod that someone could recommend that I could pick up for my wife.

Thanks...

Check with Michael Baker, a member here. He makes a very nice Hot Rod in walnut. You can see it at THIS LINK, just about half way down the page.

Michael would be a great option. Here is another, where you can see his "Rod" magic:

My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Check the ~Hot rod with different colors on both sides~ topic below this one for info on MagicSmith's DRAGSTER Hot Rod package.

Another tip: if you can locate a Deluxe Varillium Hot Rod by Sterling Magic on the secondary market, do so. It's made of heavy metal, so it feels good in your hands. The engraved design on the sides is very attractive and the gemstones are clear & bright.

This one is so nice you'll probably keep it for yourself! Smile

Not the Hot Rods in the classic sense with the gemstones but still beautiful and worth buying.

The Rubiks hot rod is the only one I would perform if I did a hot rod anymore. It's the only one a spectator can relate to.

Hi Doug,

If I were to go the plastic Hot Rod route I would prefer the clear Acrylic versions.
IMO this seems more unbelievable than the solid black plastic or wooden varieties...

Those look just like the ones Williams Magic sells. I got a set of 5 rods, the clear ones. (1 to force the first color then 1 to force the other, 1 with all of one force and 1 with all the other force, and 1 with all the different colors on both sides).

It makes it easy to do the effect again with having the same color come up again.

Emory Williams also had some custom color combinations made for me at no additional cost.

BTW these fit nicely into a business card casefor easy transport and protection.

I have one made of aluminum with arrows on it. Don't remember the name of it. It will literally last a lifetime.

Actually, the cheap plastic ones do have two benefits. I have two rods with different colours on the 'chosen colour' side, however the colours on the mixed side often come glued in a different order. So I peel the gems off and and re-glue them to match the order on both rods, then when when I'm asked to do the trick again with a different colour - and yes we all get asked that! - I can do a quick switch for a different coloured rod. That gets more of a jaw drop reaction than doing it with just the one colour. The second benefit is that they're cheap and easy to replace when lost!

Jonty makes a great point about the order of the gems. The acrylic ones I use have the gems in matching order and being see through they leave the audience a bit more stunned at the end.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this one... It's called the Double Color Changing Brass Hot Rod. I think I've had this particular one for over 10 years... maybe longer. I like the double feature it offers.

Here's a couple of Google links I found offering it... 1st one has a video
