Hi Guys,
I know some of you perform with shaped elastic bands, such as Starcle. I am looking for a source for these bands, but at size #18 or #19. The bands out there in eBay land are way to small and feel like #15 size. This is way to small for what I need it for, and while I am aware of past suggestions involving switches, I would much rather keep the routine clean and more importantly, not bring any suspicion to a 'special' band, by having to do any kind of switch at some point. To switch a band at thee end could potentially ruin all the prior effects if you get caught. So can anyone tell me where to get bigger sized 'Star' bands, or how to make your own? Steve |

If you can find rubber bands of the right color and circumference to make the star you want, I've heard that it's possible to make your own Star bands. If you're into the project (which I'm not). Make a jig out of ten nails and form the star around the nails evenly but not too tightly stretched. Then put a little acetone on all corners with a Q-Tip and let it dry. Make sure to do this in a well ventilated area. I've never made my own so perhaps someone else can give you the finer points. BTW, I go into Star-Gazer after doing Crazy Man's Hand Cuffs with the same bands. I Keep the (Star) band stretched slightly during CMHC... and it works great if the colors are the same! - Mary Mowder |

Neat idea, Mary- gotta try this. My favs right now are the Linking Lover bands, which are heart shaped...
Also known, when doing rope magic, as "Cordini"

The linking love bands are about size #19. Vlad Steve's question made me laugh, because apparently size does matter. I'm glad that my answer made you laugh, but all of the star shaped rubber bands availible are about size #15.

Does this mean that size does matter with rubber when we get to heart shaped routines?
Sorry, forgive my French but I couldn't resist the temptation. After all, why would we want to get into small stardom when we can emotionally enjoy generous heart shaped routines instead? ;)

Actually I look to find bands to match the color of my Star. For CMHC the final penetration is undercut if the bands "tell" which side of each other the bands are on. (I know because I tried it with different colored bands for a while.) It is easy for us to lose sight of the visual clues the spectator tacitly uses to understand the situation. Watch step by step and you'll see what I mean. Has anyone tried the acetone method? I'm curious but lazy. - Mary Mowder |

Yellow #19 rubber bands are availible from Alliance. Yellow stars are availible in quantity from Alan Wong a member of the magic Café. Do CMH with two different color rubber bands so when you do stargazer the yellow one will be in the middle. Most people refer to CMHC as CMH?

Star Gazer does look better with different colored bands but CMH does not, in fact contrasting bands tip the final penetration prematurely.
You'll have to choose between serving the Magic in CMH or the esthetics of having the star "shine" nicely from the center of the band arrangement in Star Gazer. If you don't want to bring in another band I think you should serve the Magic in CMH and verbally point out the Star in Stargazer. Once they see the Star they will mentally disassociate the rest of the bands. Not as beautiful but more magical. -Mary Mowder |

Before you co CMH you must display two round rubber bands. I always do CMH twice (once I do it, and once I do it with a volunteer) after the second time they will be shocked and take their eyes off of your hands (because they think that the trick is over) When they take their eyes away you switch the round yellow #19 for the yellow star from your wrist, and proceed to do StarGazer. Because you displayed the two round rubber bands first StarGazer will be that much more powerful. That is why the yellow #19, and the yellow star is necessary for this routine.

I don't know, I have done CMH so many times that I usually watch the spectators eyes when I do it, so I have never given color a second thought. I guess that you should do each trick seperately instead of making it a routine.

Is it just me or has anyone found stargazer less effect with the appearance of silly bands? It seems like pre sillybands people had no idea that you could shape a rubber band. It seems like sillybands offer a possible solution where there wasn't one before. Just an observation.
