Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for the best kind of coins to use with this. I'm going to order the dvd but I'd like to order some coins at the same time, there are many varieties of chinese coins.

Many thanks!

It's my opinion that The Sterling Chinese coins are the best on the market. They are thin, can fit in an expanded half dollar ], and are almost silent when they slide against one another.

You can get them for $8 or $9 @: http://www.sterlingmagic.com/product.html

Joshua Jay sells very thin coins which is an advantage for certain subtleties (like making four coins appear as three and three appear as two).

This is a great routine. I am just getting into it and having fun practicing. Some moves look really magical. Enjoy.

I use the Black Chinese Coin by Royal Magic, at least the black part doesn't come off like Ton Onosaka's coin that I spent 45 bucks for...

Though thicker, there are some nice 50mm chinese coins from Stampington.
If you can handle the much larger coins, I think they have a nice impact.

I sell various sizes in Feng Shui Chinese coins. The half dollar size is very light, great for muscle passes. The coins are brittle, but stand up to magic.

I agree. These are the coins I purchased to do this effect. And, as Eric mentions, these coins are very silent. Think "soft coins" and you'll get the idea.

I second the Sterling ones. I have used a set I purchased from Ben Stone, many many years ago. They look like the ones from the link above. My set came from the "Bobo collection" and even included a [.

Over the years I have added a few more from magic auctions again with and expanded [.

East African dimes can be found at many coin shops - about the same size as a half dollar.
The current economic crisis is due to all the coins I've vanished.

SEO Magic sold some really nice coins that are perfect for this trick at the last TAOM convention. They match almost exactly the ones Joshua Jay sells. I think they still have them available on their website.

The Sterling coins are the best for this effect, thin and silent.

The only way to go.

Oh, and these are the ones recommended by the Creator as well...

I originally thought the ribbon was silk, but after meeting Troy found that it is just a satin ribbon. If you go to Joanne's or another fabric/craft store you can get satin ribbon in a role for around $10-15 for 30 or 50 yards; that will last a long time. The key is to get ribbon that is satin finish on both sides, some are only single sided, and it is much stiffer.

Here are links:

These are two different thicknesses, and I wouldn't order online the first time. I would go check it out and then if you want to order online you have a product to compare.

Remember, double sided, they sell single sided, but it isn't what you want.

Oh, they sell silk ribbon as well, but it is more expensive, only comes in 3 yards, and it wears much quicker. Since it is wrapped, I found I had to iron it (properly) before use as well.

Shoot Ogawa used the Johnson Coins but they are thicker and more expensive. Undoubtedly the Sterling Coins are the most silent. The Onasaka coins are nice but get rubbed out rather quickly.
