I just received my Ninja Rings DVD today, and couldn't wait to try out the new moves. However, whenever I do a certain few moves, the ring hits my pinky until it hurts so much I have to stop. Am I doing it wrong or do I need to build up a callous? Thanks.

Also, any tips on the one-handed link? I've only gotten it a few times and I think they were my luck. I had to stop trying because of the pinky problem, though.

I ended up with a blood blister from doing crash links. I think practice is the answer.

Here's my top 10:

1. look on other threads for the answers.
2. be glad you're not using 12" owen rings for the crash link
3. practice practice practice.

4. realx and do it smoothly. know it's going to go thru in your brain beforehand and smoothly make it happen. arms straight out in front of you. the sound it should make is like a "latch". almost like 2 sounds. the sound should be nice to hear.

4.5 for an experiement try touching the rings and just pushing one thru the other. see how that feels. it should look good. it should fool they eye if done right.

5. go to shoot's workshop when available in your area.

6. when done properly you won't really feel much. no callous is needed.

7-10. relax your hands while you practice practice practice.

11. after you think you're a rock star at this, try this: every day when you walk by your rings, pick up the 2 rings, and try it once, set them down, analyze your attempt and walk away. That will give you a better feel for how you'd do in performance.

12, doing it over and over to get it right will help but in the end, you need to be able to do #11 each time successfully.

10. good luck.

You are not opening up enough to allow the ring to go in.
You don't have to completely cover the key.
It can actually be a little exposed.

Watch Shoot do it real close.
Like he says, "no long movement, short."
It's just a tap, and it's in.

On the one hand link...
The key is in your hand...
Point it up, until the other rings are about to fall off...
Then go straight down, but with a scooping motion at the end...

That's the best I can do in words.

I know this is a little off topic but… I just got the Ninja Rings DVD but haven’t purchased a small set of rings yet. I was ready to purchase the Silver Ninja Rings but one friend said that I shouldn’t because the chrome on his set began to flake and rust. Has something similar happened to anyone else or was this just some misfortunate one-time thing? I would like to think it is the latter.

If you buy the real silver ninja rings that might happen after a very long time but I've used mine for years and they are fine. I use them a lot. they are nickle plated, apparently, nice and strong and you should buy them.

I personally don't like the look of the gold rings and don't see the need for the added expense.

the cheap rings come in 2 types: acceptable for the price and horrible.

the royal rings are absolutely horrible but ok for practice or if you just want to see if you like doing rings. they're only $10.

the other cheapos are also $10 but they look darn good. I don't remember which those are. the chrome flake after a couple years but still...

just get the ninjas.
I'd try to sell them to you but I'm OUT.

Gold rings are just too cool for words, the added expense will be worth it I'm sure...right Frank? Lol! Smile Smile Smile

Myself, I'm patiently awaiting my gold Ninja rings and video from Frank, I can't wait!

On topic, so I've been practicing the spinning move on the table and then crash linking....I thought I broke my Pinky finger! I f**ked up and man did it hurt, my pinky is still sore!

Who's the wuss now???

Hey,

I have the gold rings and they look great. Unlike the silver they just air "skill", they are without a doubt worth the extra few bucks to buy them. Also when I started doing the rings before I got the ninjas I tried doing the spin link with my 12" set and I cut my pinky. It meant that I couldn't practice for a week. The key thing is to relax and let the rings do the work for you.

I don't think magic should be painful to the audience or the magician. After seeing Ninja Rings from four feet away as Shoot taught them they looked like magic. And Yes, I bought the whole package. I never publicly performed it. I'm still using the big ones.

One size does not fit all. In Shoot's hands it's magic. The magic just isn't there when I do it. Find what fits you best.

Good Luck!

She's good. I'd PAY to see her. It's rare to see a female magician, and she's DIFFERENT.

Makes me want to look at the way I'VE been doing magic. After watching her demo, I feel like an old burnt-out fogey....ha haa!!

Practice and relax. There's no way any linking ring move should harm your hands.

I got my gold ninja ring few weeks ago.

Shine like real Gold.
Give you real good feeling during performance.

However,
I cannot get the "Cling" sound from Ninja ring.
I am using the cheapo ninja ring but it give a very nice "Cling" sound when you release the ring and let it hit together.

And the shape my ring is no more round after use for 2-3 weeks.
(working in local magic shop and practise few hours everyday)
Pretty disappointed with the quality.

By the way, beside Ninja Ring DVD by shoot, what other source of dvd or book I can buy regarding ninja ring?

Before I forget... EMPIRE. They make very cheap rings that are a billion times better than the Royal rings. The welds don't show with the empire rings.

you can get them from http://www.grandillusions.com I believe.

if you're looking for budget rings, these are those.
