I'm completly new to rubberband magic. Yet I want to start getting into it. What books or dvd's should I pick up to start learning some of it? I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Cody Fisher

Welcome to the magic Café. The answer to your question is Michael Ammar's "classic renditions" volume 2, Joe Rindfleisch's "Elastrix" volume 2, and Dan Harlan's "bandshark". Those two DVD's, and one book is square one in rubber band magic.

Haha! Yep, I've nocked my nose once or twice, and sent them across the room more times than I can remember. Have extras handy!

Al mentioned Elasreix 2 which I don't have (I should buy it...) but I can recommend volume 1 which has some very nice magic. Most people like to use #19 rubberbands but some people prefer #16 rubberbands. Here are a FEW threads on rubberband magic:

I know Crazy Man's Handcuffs would be a good trick if starting out in Rubberband Magic.

I can do the crazy man's handcuffs. I am also thinking of purchasing Vince Mendoza's found link. Thanks for the help from everyone.

Also, Al, will you be performing at Musikfest?

aren't you the young man I me at the IKEA store last fall? They usually call me for Musikfest in April. I strongly suggest you wait on that "Found Link" because Vince Mendoza is about to release his DVD any day, so I suggest you put your name on his email list and Vince will contact you.

I watched a linked version of the crazy man's handcuffs (namely, poor man's linking rings) performed by a young guy at the following link: -

It looks great. Is there any review of this routine?

Mr. Mendoza's "Found Link" (a variation on Chris Kenner's Missing Link) is fantastic. He kept saying he would put out a DVD, but no word yet.

Stargazer is also wonderful.

Learning rubber band magic from books is pretty tough. Try to get a dvd if possible. Extreme Rubber Band Magic just came out a few months ago to great reviews. Also check out volume 2 of Geoff Williams Miracles for Mortals for one of the best linking rubber band effects I've seen. It's in Bandshark but the get ready shown in Bandshark is a nightmare. Geoff has so simplified it that it's just plain beautiful.

I personally feel learning rubberband magic from books is easier....
in DVDs/videos, it's difficult to see where the rubberbands are especially if it's twisted around ur fingers and such...
in books, the illustrations are drawn from angles that you can understand, and you have enough time to learn the position of the fingers and rubberbands before you move to the next instruction

I have a written instruction on Crazy Man's Handcuffs and I think watching a video is easier.
